Delicious food falls from the sky.

In this complete and self-sufficient community environment in a small town called Swallow Falls that we see, it has also inevitably entered an extremely difficult period due to the impact of energy crisis and various natural disasters and man-made calamities, forcing the residents to rely solely on eating sardines to address the food shortage issue.

Young Flint Lockwood, voiced by Bill Hader, is an unsuccessful inventor with little achievement. Since childhood, he has been dedicated to various researches, hoping for one day to create a major discovery that can improve human living standards. Unfortunately, his terrible imagination only brings him a series of terrible troubles.

Seeing the townspeople complaining bitterly about not having tasty food, Flint suddenly realizes that maybe he can alleviate the danger of people going hungry. He creates a machine that can effectively convert water resources into food. When all kinds of delicious things fall from the sky like heavy rain, Flint naturally becomes a much-revered hero in the local area.

As the town's wonders become famous, so does the local weather forecaster Sam Sparks, played by Anna Faris. She seems to finally see her dream of becoming a real show host in a big city coming true step by step. Although Sam appears arrogant and hard to approach on the surface, she is actually a smart and kind woman.

Since every machine will malfunction at some point, Flint soon finds himself unable to control the food-making machine he invented well. It keeps producing foods of enormous size in great quantities, as if trying to fill up the entire Earth. People sorrowfully come to realize a fact: if they don't want to be buried alive by food, they must keep eating endlessly far exceeding their body's needs and capacity.
