The TV series "Da Jingmen" is based on the history of Zhangjiakou as a land port for China's foreign trade. It tells the story of Wang Ruichang, a major merchant in Zhangjiakou during the early years of the Republic of China, and his business struggles on the Zhangku Road, which starts in Zhangjiakou and ends in Kulun (now Ulan Bator). It recreates the rise and fall of this sole land route for import and export trade in Northern China amidst turbulent times. The TV series will be broadcast in the year to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
