Liu Jian, also known as Li Lianjie, is a Chinese special agent assigned to go to Paris to help the police department there break up a local drug smuggling ring. Because the mission is extremely sensitive, his superiors did not inform Liu Jian of the specific task details. After arriving in Paris, he smoothly connected with his contact and was escorted to meet Richard Chevallier (played by Djimon Hounsou), the senior detective he was ordered to cooperate with. After a series of twists and turns, Liu Jian's first face-to-face meeting with Richard results in him witnessing Richard beating a suspect to death.
