The year 1948 was an extraordinary and tumultuous period in Chinese history. The sky, covered by dark clouds, echoed with thunderous roars. The Central Plains battlefield was shrouded in smoke from the battles. The liberation forces began the prelude to the decisive battle between two fates. In that year, the Liberation War finally transitioned from a strategic defense to a strategic counteroffensive. The main force of the East China Field Army, personally commanded by General粟Yù, engaged in large-scale military operations against Chiang Kai-shek's elite troops between Henan's eastern region and the Huai River. With the cooperation of the Central Plains Field Army, the broad ranks of officers and soldiers fought bravely through days and nights under the scorching heat of summer. They successfully liberated Kaifeng, the first provincial capital within the pass, and subsequently annihilated more than ten thousand enemy troops, including a full corps, in the Suiji region, capturing the corps commander, Ou Shounian, alive.
