Some scientists call it the Pit of Death. Others have dubbed it Dinosaur Pompeii. Imagine a pile of overlapping dinosaur skeletons and these are some of the best-preserved dinosaurs we've ever seen, including ancestors of the tyrannosaurs, ancestors of the triceratops, ancient crocodiles, and nearly 40 other animal species dating back 160 million years. We know surprisingly little about dinosaurs from this time, 160 million years ago. In this film, we will accompany a team of paleontologists to the Junggar Basin in China's far west, where all these new species were unearthed. Led by Dr. Jim Clark from George Washington University and Xu Xing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the team will examine and reconstruct fossil bones, piece together the appearance of these mysterious dinosaurs using high-resolution computer-generated images, investigate the cause of their deaths, and understand more about the dinosaurs of this lost era through them.
