ABCNews.com republishes and allows citizen contributions

In the face of the challenges posed by Web 2.0, an increasing number of mainstream news media websites in the West are transitioning towards Web 2.0. Following USA Today's transformation of its website into a social network, on April 28th, U.S. time, ABCNews.com also relaunched its site and began allowing citizen journalists to submit contributions.

According to the official announcement from ABCNews.com, this redesign was created to celebrate the tenth anniversary of ABCNews.com. Compared to the old version, the new one features bold design changes and increased use of video. More importantly, behind this new interface, ABC has opened the door for submissions from citizen journalists. Viewers and readers can help ABC report the news by submitting news stories and leaving comments. The site also supports uploading videos from mobile phones and cameras, some of which will be selectively broadcast on the website or television news programs.
