The Simplified Chinese version of 3ds max 7 text objects supports GB18030 encoding.

Note: Before attempting to input Unicode characters into text objects, you may need to install Microsoft’s GB18030 support package into your system. For Windows 2000, the Simplified Chinese version of Windows 2000 sold in China will include the GB18030 support package CD. You can also download the GB18030 support package from the website of Microsoft's Chinese subsidiary. For Windows XP, the Simplified Chinese version of Windows XP sold in China will include the GB18030 support package.

Procedure:

1. Select the "Text" object in the "Graphics" creation panel.

2. In the drop-down list of the "Parameters" rollout, select a font related to GB18030, such as "SimSun-18030".

3. In the "Text" edit box, enter "\u+XXXX\u+YYYY" (XXXX and YYYY are character codes). This will be displayed in the edit box (since character codes will not be converted into actual characters in the edit box).

4. Click any point in the viewport, and the character displayed in the viewport will be the actual character you want to input (since character codes will be converted into actual characters in the viewport).
