The "Virtual Forbidden City" is a virtual tour software developed over three years through a collaboration between the Palace Museum and IBM. Users can take a tour of the Palace Museum from the comfort of their own home.

The "Virtual Forbidden City" replicates the museum, which spans several square kilometers, in high-definition 3D modeling. With just a click of the mouse, users can gain an in-depth understanding of all the buildings and their features within the Forbidden City, as well as its precious collections. Visitors can also design their own tour routes and experience traditional palace games such as playing Go online. Additionally, tourists can converse and exchange experiences with one another.

The webmaster gave it a try and found it quite interesting. In the software, users become a visitor themselves, controlling the direction of movement via the keyboard, which feels very similar to online games. On the right side of the interface, there is a control panel that provides functions such as a map of the Forbidden City, location search, visitor perspective, and real-scene images.
