Web-safe colors are a set of 216 colors used by browsers that are platform-independent. When displaying colors on an 8-bit screen, browsers convert all colors in an image to these 216 colors. This set of colors is a subset of the Mac OS 8-bit color palette. By using only these colors, you can ensure that images created for the Web will not exhibit dithering on systems set to display 256 colors.
