7-Zip is an open-source software distributed under the GNU/LPGL license, and it can be considered as the file compression format that has the most potential to become the next mainstream compression format after zip and rar. The compression ratio of 7zip is its biggest competitive advantage. Under normal compression ratio settings, we can easily surpass the highest compression ratio of WinRAR. However, 7zip is not perfect (if it were, RAR would have already been replaced). The main issues are that the software interface is still not excellent enough, and the format itself does not provide good support for split volume compression. But this does not prevent 7zip from being the most promising compression format.
