In Beijing's expansion training, communication is omnipresent as a means of exchange. There is vocal communication and silent communication by design. Many expansion company projects would be impossible to carry out without communication. In the new employee onboarding training in Beijing's expansion courses, the communication between leaders and new employees deserves special attention. The way of communicating with new employees is like talking to kindergarten children; one must explain work tasks in a way that new employees can understand.
As enterprises continue to grow, they face the issue of recruiting new employees every year. New employees who have just joined the company are still in the process of gradually learning and comprehending many professional knowledge areas. Therefore, it is required that leaders or colleagues use language that is easy to understand when explaining or discussing work with new employees. This reflects the leader's care and assistance towards new employees.
The purpose of doing so is to avoid ineffective communication. There is a story that illustrates this point. It is said that in ancient times, there was a scholar who went out to buy firewood. He said to the seller: "Bearer of firewood, come over!" The seller didn't fully understand what he said but understood the word "come over," so he brought the firewood to the scholar. The scholar then asked: "What is the price?" The seller didn't fully understand the question but recognized the word "price" and told the scholar the cost. The scholar continued: "It is warped and hollow inside, smoky and lacking in fire, please reduce the price." Since the seller couldn't understand what the scholar was saying, he carried the firewood away and left.
This story well explains the principle that even if you are right, you might not be able to make your case clear to someone else. The scholar's living environment and cultural cultivation were obviously very different from those of the woodcutter. The woodcutter knew he had firewood to sell, and if the price was right, he would sell it. However, when the scholar communicated with the woodcutter, he used a lot of written language that had no intersection with the woodcutter's linguistic environment. As a result, each sentence the scholar spoke made the woodcutter struggle to understand, and naturally, the transaction ended fruitlessly.
Therefore, when managers communicate with employees, they need to be patient and explain the meanings behind certain words to their employees. Employees will then, through richer language, understand the specific connotations of each content. Only in this way can employees connect what you say with their actual work, know exactly what you want them to do, and interact fully with you to discuss various possible approaches and any existing questions.
Such guidance is built on a thorough understanding of employees and on the basis of sufficient information exchange. Thus, any evaluation or judgment you make won't surprise the employees, and all your decisions will receive a response from the employees, encouraging them to participate more actively.
It is evident that communication is an important part of achieving goals. For new employees, who have yet to fully grasp the company’s cultural background, concepts, and professional knowledge, patience is essential during communication or some explanatory work needs to be done. Since new employees don’t know the company well enough, they may feel nervous or confused when conversing with senior employees or leaders. At such times, smiling and calm communication is necessary to ease the tension of new employees. New employees should also not have mental reservations because this tense situation will improve as they become more familiar with the company.
In my management consulting work, I often encounter similar issues. When a consultant only talks about management theories, it is difficult to form interaction with clients, and they may even gradually be abandoned by the clients. When consultants try to express their ideas using the client's language, the clients' faces will show the pleasure you seek rather than confusion.
New employees must quickly familiarize themselves with the work content because management and communication are always core issues in an enterprise. Only when business knowledge becomes mature can effective communication occur between employees and leaders.
