Chutian Golden Newspaper News - At around 4 p.m. the previous day, under the escort of a special team from Jing Shan responsible for pursuing fugitives, seven suspects accused of murder, theft, and robbery were brought back to Jing Shan. Among them, Huang had fled for 24 years after participating in a case that resulted in death. Why did he end up on this irreversible path? And why did he choose to surrender himself after 24 years of committing the crime? A reporter conducted an exclusive interview regarding these questions.

After failing at pickpocketing, Huang participated in assaulting others, which led to a fatal incident. The Huang in front of the reporter has completely lost the vigor and vitality of a 45-year-old man. He shared his feelings about his 24 years as a fugitive with the hope of advising other criminals on the run to turn themselves in.

On November 24, 1988, Huang, then 21 years old from Songhe Town in Jing Shan, was just discharged from the hospital after being hospitalized for leg osteomyelitis when he was invited by Xu and Chen, along with 11 other "hoodlums" on the street, to steal on a bus. When the bus arrived at Qu Village in Sanyang Town, Xu and Chen were caught in the act of stealing. To vent their dissatisfaction, Xu and Chen attacked several villagers from Qu Village who tried to stop them. One of the villagers, Xiao, in his twenties, was injured and later died in the hospital after unsuccessful rescue attempts. The forensic doctor determined that Xiao's death was due to a rupture of an aortic vascular瘤 caused by external force. Upon hearing the news, Huang became afraid, thinking that killing someone constituted a capital crime, so he fled Jing Shan overnight. Among the 11 people who participated in the crime, six people including Xu and Chen were sentenced to 10 and 15 years in prison for hooliganism, while Huang, who fled, became a wanted fugitive on the police's list.

Suffering Through 24 Years of Fugitive Life

Huang's escape lasted for 24 years. "Those years were very hard for me..." Huang told the reporter that, fearing exposure of his identity, he could only work in small factories or brick kilns, dared not go out to eat, and often went hungry for an entire day.

"For 24 years, I have never dared to call my family, nor sent a single penny home," Huang said, adding that he frequently woke up in the middle of the night, believing that the police had found him.

"These years I have also failed to fulfill my filial duties..." Huang mentioned that during his escape, his father passed away early due to illness, and his mother remarried elsewhere.

In October this year, Huang suddenly received a phone call. On the other end of the line, his mother was crying her heart out. She told him that she had gone blind and was unable to take care of herself. Huang spent two months in anxiety before finally deciding to surrender himself under the joint persuasion of the police, his family, and friends.

Huang stated that rather than spending the rest of his life evading arrest in constant fear, it would be better to accept legal punishment early, reform himself, and strive to fulfill his filial duties to his elderly mother in her twilight years. (Reporter Zhou Soujiang, Correspondent Xie Zhengyu)
