Enable Wireless LAN Tracing in Windows Vista

This article explains how to enable tracing for a wireless local area network (WLAN) when starting a computer running Windows Vista. To enable tracing when starting the computer, permanent tracing must be enabled from the command line.

Tracing for WLAN can be enabled either by using Performance Monitor or by using the netsh command-line tool. By default, the tracing mode in Windows Vista is non-permanent. This means that after enabling tracing, it will remain active until manually stopped or until the computer is restarted.

In some cases, it may be necessary to enable tracing for WLAN when starting the computer. For example, you might want to do this to troubleshoot issues that occur before a user logs into the computer. To achieve this, use the netsh command-line tool to enable tracing and set the mode to the "persistent" parameter. Permanent tracing means that after enabling tracing, it will remain active even after the computer is restarted.
