For prisoners who have been locked up for years, freedom should be what they yearn for the most. Some prisoners even take risks to escape in order to gain their freedom. In comparison with these restless prisoners, the recent behavior of prisoner Louis Lopez from Florida, USA, seems a bit "foolish". According to the UK's Daily Mail website on November 7, Lopez, 37, was sentenced to one year in prison for several illegal acts, including driving without a license after his license was revoked, drunk driving, car accidents, and hit-and-runs. However, due to an error in the prison's computer system, on November 4 this year, after serving only three months of his sentence, he was told that he could be released, with just one year of probation remaining. "I was very surprised," said Lopez. After repeatedly asking the guards, he confirmed that he had regained his freedom. When he got home, he still had doubts about this unexpected luck, so he contacted his lawyer to inquire about the situation. The lawyer's reply shocked him: Lopez did not have one year of probation at all. After further inquiries, Lopez learned that it was an error in Florida prison's computer system that shortened his sentence. After thorough discussions with his lawyer, Lopez was advised to return to prison to complete the remaining part of his sentence. He also felt that he should do the right thing, so he decided to return to prison to continue serving his sentence. An American media outlet reported on Lopez's return to prison. In the TV footage, he knocked on the prison gate and patiently waited for the guards' inspection. Lopez candidly said, "This shouldn't have happened. Now I just want to do what I should do, accept the punishment I deserve, so I can start my new life with peace of mind, that's all."
