Blood egg

Ms. Bai, who lives in Qingdao, Shandong, reported that among two bags of "insect eggs" she purchased from a supermarket, one egg had red egg white. In the afternoon of March 4, a reporter contacted the manufacturer of the egg's anti-counterfeiting technology. A responsible person surnamed Zhang said: "If only one or two eggs have this problem, then it must be a special case because the hen is on her period." Dr. Ji Haifeng, an animal husbandry expert from China Agricultural University, stated that there could be two reasons for blood-colored egg whites: one is that the hens were infected with E. coli which caused severe inflammation of the oviduct; and the second is that problematic feed was added during the rearing process. Ji Haifeng said that hens do not have menstrual periods, and so-called "insect eggs" are impossible to feed chickens entirely on insects during the rearing process. It's more likely that insect components were added to the feed. If blood-stained egg whites appear, it is suggested that citizens should not eat them.
