The combination of regular education and special education, the relationship between regular education and special education, is an important experience for our Party to strengthen its advanced nature. According to the arrangements of the Central Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Committee, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as one of the second batch of units for advanced nature education activities, started in July this year. We deeply realize that starting the activity of advanced nature education for Party members is not only a major project to ensure the long-term stability of the Party and the country based on new situations, meet new challenges, and strengthen and consolidate the ruling status of the Party, but also an urgent requirement to improve the cohesion, fighting capacity, and creativity of university Party organizations, accelerate the construction of world-class universities, and better shoulder the historic mission.
In recent years, under the correct leadership of the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has firmly grasped the opportunities of the 211 Project, the 985 Project in Minhang, and the second phase of construction, insisting on facing national strategic demands and the main battlefield of economic construction, continuously improving the level of teaching and scientific research, actively contributing to the national and regional economic and social development, and achieving great progress in comprehensive strength and core competitiveness. Currently, our school is in one of the best development periods in its history, facing the rare historic opportunity to accelerate the building of a world-class university. With the joint efforts of teachers, students, and staff, the school's reform and development are promoted. Shortly before, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Second Medical University merged powerfully to form a new Shanghai Jiao Tong University. By integrating the multidisciplinary comprehensive advantages of the original Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the strength of the two medical schools in the medical field, focusing and integrating resources, gathering talents, and building uplands, we enhance the overall strength of the school. This offers new and broader space for the school's accelerated development. As we know, with good opportunities, if there is no unified ideological foundation, no faith, no spirit, no intrinsic motivation, it will be very difficult for us to seize opportunities, accelerate development, complete the higher-level Party committees' requirements for us, and achieve the expectations of society from all walks of life.
At this level, first-class, relies on the strong guidance of Party organizations at all levels, and relies on the advanced nature of Party members and cadres to drive. In April this year, to do a good job in advanced nature education, the school Party committee established a research working group, organizing investigations of Party members and Party organizations. Using methods such as questionnaire surveys, informal discussions, focus groups, and individual interviews, we conducted visits. A total of 3,926 investigation questionnaires were extended to the entire faculty and student body, 72 symposiums at various levels were held, and key visits were made to 31 units or branches. From the overall situation of the research, my school’s Party organization and Party member team are good, forming a fighting force. The majority of Party members dedicate themselves on their respective positions, uniting and leading the broad masses of teachers and students to promote the school's reform and development work, better playing the exemplary vanguard and exemplary role.
Especially in matters concerning the overall stability situation, the occurrence of unexpected events, and the moment of conflicts of interest contradictions, our Party organization and broad Party members are reliable and can withstand tests. But at the same time, we increasingly feel that compared to the historical responsibilities and arduous tasks we shoulder, grassroots Party organizations and members still do not match and do not meet the requirements. For example, some Party members' ideals and beliefs are not firm enough, being equal to the general public in work and life; some Party members' sense of professionalism and responsibility is not strong, morality, teaching style, and study style are not practical, not well performing teaching duties, not well playing an exemplary role in scientific research innovation. Some Party member cadres lack awareness of strengthening theoretical study, guiding masses to promote reform, leading development, solving problems, and the ability to solve complex problems need improvement; some Party member cadres lack initiative, have low demands, and lack hardship consciousness. Some primary party organizations have weak work, lack of cohesion, lack a sober understanding of the development problems at deep administrative levels, lack adaptation to the new situation and new working contents and methods, lack passion and creativity, and fail to meet the requirements of creating a first-class university.
Therefore, the school Party committee clearly proposed that starting advanced nature education should be regarded as an important political task; as improving the school Party organization's cohesion, fighting capacity, and creativity, improving their ideological and political quality as internal demand and inevitable requirement; as promoting the school's reform and development, accelerating the creation of world-class universities and first-class medical institutes as an important opportunity. We should be good at seizing key points, overcoming difficulties, grasping nodes, catching bright spots, through the activity of advanced nature education, further using the important thought of representing the entire Party, firming the ideal and faith of Party members in Party organizations at all levels, improving the theoretical thinking and working level, better uniting and leading the school's staff and students, and creating a new situation in the school's personnel training, scientific research, and social services.
