People's Daily Online, Beijing, January 13 (reported by Li Jing) -- 33-year-old Xin Lichun brutally stabbed six people due to dissatisfaction with his family's "pressure", resulting in two deaths and four injuries of varying degrees. In November 2010, Xin Lichun was sentenced to death for the crime of intentional homicide. Today, I learned from the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court that he was verified and executed this morning.
Xin Lichun, originally from Guanyun County, Jiangsu Province, worked at a technology development company in Beijing before the incident.
According to the prosecution's charges, on the night of October 25, 2009, in the rented residence of the victim on Fuxing Road in Haidian District, Xin Lichun quarreled with Yuan's father and son over trivial matters. During the argument, Xin Lichun used an iron hammer to hit Yuan's father and son on the head, causing their severe brain injuries leading to their deaths. Around 7:00 AM on October 26, 2009, fearing exposure of his crimes, Xin Lichun viciously struck Yuan's eldest son on the head with the iron hammer. During their struggle, Xin Lichun also violently slashed the heads and faces of Yuan's wife, daughter, and eldest daughter-in-law who had come to stop him, resulting in injuries of varying degrees for the four individuals. After committing the crime, Xin Lichun was caught on the spot.
It is understood that the victim Yuan was Xin Lichun's uncle. Xin Lichun had served in the military and worked in the company run by Yuan's family after being discharged. However, Yuan and his family always thought that Xin Lichun did not work hard enough and thus pressured him. On the night of the incident, Xin Lichun was awakened from sleep by Yuan's father and son and once again faced their pressure. Ultimately, Xin Lichun grabbed an iron hammer nearby and attacked Yuan's father and others. After the crime, Xin Lichun attempted to jump off a building but was stopped by Yuan's eldest son. A security guard said that when the incident happened, he was about to hand over his shift in the monitoring room. He received a call from a resident reporting someone wielding a knife and attacking people. When he arrived at the building where Yuan's family lived, he found Xin Lichun half hanging out of the balcony on the seventh floor, while Yuan's family members were holding onto him from inside. After rescuing Xin Lichun, the security guard saw Xin lying on the balcony, biting into a pear on the ground twice, and saying, "Feels good."
After deliberation, the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court believed that Xin Lichun intentionally and illegally deprived others of their lives, resulting in two deaths, two serious injuries, and two minor injuries. His actions constituted the crime of intentional homicide. Although some of the crimes were unsuccessful attempts, the nature of Xin Lichun's intentional homicide was extremely malicious, with particularly severe circumstances and consequences, posing great social harm. Therefore, according to the law, he deserved severe punishment. In November 2010, Xin Lichun was sentenced to death for the crime of intentional homicide.
