Wang Xuan Yu - At the age of 47, Lan Benxue was an ordinary farmer from Jiao'an Village, Handongzhuang Township, Yuanyang County in Henan Province. Ten years ago, he started a timber business. In recent years, he bought a car and a house for his son and helped him get married. The family's life was very comfortable. However, everything changed on the night of August 6, 2011.

On the morning of August 6, Lan Benxue drove his son's white car to the logging site to work. Around 10 p.m., after a long day of work, Lan Benxue returned to Yuanyang, passing over the Yellow River Highway Bridge in Zhengzhou. It was late at night and there were not many cars on the bridge. Eager to return home, Lan Benxue increased his speed. When driving past the No. 52 lamppost on the northern side of the bridge, Lan Benxue was momentarily blinded by the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. Suddenly, he vaguely saw an electric bike traveling in the same direction as his car. Before he could react, there was a loud bang as he collided with it. A person flew up, hit the windshield of his car, and then bounced out.

According to Lan Benxue, he was shocked by this unexpected situation. Realizing that he was driving without a license, he immediately turned the steering wheel in an attempt to flee the scene. However, the victim's electric bike was stuck under the front bumper of his car, scraping against the guardrail steps of the bridge. After traveling about 30 meters, Lan Benxue had no choice but to stop.

After getting out of the car, Lan Benxue first checked the condition of his vehicle and then saw Zhang Sanhua lying behind the car. He confessed, "I saw someone lying face down on the ground. Upon closer inspection, it was a middle-aged woman. I immediately called out to her, but she didn't respond. Panicking, I decided to evade responsibility. I picked her up and carried her to the eastern guardrail of the bridge, where I threw her off." Afterwards, Lan Benxue dragged Zhang Sanhua's electric bike and threw it off the 13-meter-high Yellow River Bridge.

This act was witnessed by two passing drivers, Song and Zhang, who subsequently called the police. The next day, after much deliberation, Lan Benxue, accompanied by his family, surrendered to the authorities. The forensic examination determined that Zhang Sanhua died from multiple fractures and internal injuries caused by being struck by a vehicle and then being thrown off the bridge, resulting in traumatic shock.

Had Lan Benxue provided timely assistance to the victim after the accident, perhaps the tragedy could have been avoided. However, he took extreme measures. On the day of the incident, Zhang Sanhua was riding her electric bike to Zhengzhou to buy her daughter's wedding trousseau, as her daughter Xiao Jin's wedding was just three days away. Unfortunately, Zhang Sanhua would never see her daughter in her wedding dress. Her daughter fainted upon hearing the news, and the upcoming wedding turned into a funeral.

On December 2, 2011, the Xinxiang Procuratorate prosecuted Lan Benxue for intentional homicide. On December 30, the Intermediate People's Court of Xinxiang held a trial for the case, but did not announce the verdict immediately.
