Oriental Morning Post reporter Zhou Kuawei - Around 3:30 PM the day before yesterday, at a bathhouse located near Yindao Road on Guoquan North Road in Baoshan District, an elderly man slipped and fell after bathing in a hot water pool. He was rescued by the bathhouse staff and sent to the hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment, but he ultimately passed away yesterday after unsuccessful resuscitation efforts.
Yesterday, this reporter visited the scene of the incident at the bathhouse, which is named "Guojiang" and located at No. 515 Guoquan North Road. The establishment has a modest storefront. The front desk staff of the bathhouse confirmed that the incident indeed occurred. A middle-aged male employee recounted that around 3 PM the day before yesterday, the elderly man arrived at the bathhouse accompanied by another man. Since the bathing area has two pools, one with hot water and the other with cold water, the elderly man started bathing in the hot water pool. Soon after others left the hot water pool, only the elderly man remained inside. Subsequently, he stood up and asked the service staff to shave his face. "After shaving, the elderly man wanted to bathe in the cold water pool. Unexpectedly, he suddenly slipped and fell into the cold water pool. I quickly went down and pulled him up," said the staff member. According to the staff, the elderly man lived nearby and often came to the bathhouse to take a bath.
The bathhouse staff emphasized that the elderly man could still speak after being rescued, but his body was red. The store manager then called 120, and the ambulance subsequently transported the elderly man to the hospital for treatment. We learned from the hospital that the elderly man's surname was Fang, and he was 78 years old. When he was brought in, his entire body was swollen and his skin had peeled off in some areas. He was diagnosed with 80% second-degree burns across his body.
