Two Missing Villagers Alarm
According to reports, this year on January 26 at 0:30, the Furui Xinhui District Public Security Bureau police station received a report from a 44-year-old villager named Ye Huan. He stated that on January 25 at 20:00, his 14-year-old niece, Ye Lucy, had quarreled with her family and run away from home. Their 44-year-old neighbor, Ye Qun Zhuang, went out to persuade her and search for her. After 25 minutes, Ye Qun Zhuang's motorcycle and helmet were found by the roadside near Ma Okimura, but both Ye Lucy and Ye Qun Zhuang had lost contact.
The Furui police station immediately organized police officers and public security personnel to search in Ma Chongcun and surrounding areas. On the morning of the 26th, villagers discovered Ye Qun Zhuang’s mobile phone in the river near Ma Okimura, suspecting that the two individuals may have fallen into the river. Despite extensive searches by the police, no traces of the two were found.
Investigation Restores Incident Details
Police investigations revealed that on January 25 at 20:00, after Ye Lucy ran away from home, her uncle, Ye Such As Joy (name phonetically translated), called their neighbor Ye Qun Zhuang for help in persuading and finding her. Ye Qun Zhuang immediately left on his motorbike to look for Ye Lucy. In a corner of the village, he met a 25-year-old villager named Ye X Yan. Ye Qun Zhuang told Ye X Yan to go to the ancient bridge intersection and wait while he took her to the ancient bridge, saying he would continue to look for Ye Lucy. Then, driving along the river toward the Tiger Pit Bridge, Ye Qun Zhuang used a thermal imaging camera to assist motorists in the search.
At 20:15, Ye Huan called Ye Qun Zhuang but found his phone was switched off. Ten minutes later, Ye Such As Joy discovered Ye Qun Zhuang's motorcycle and helmet by the river, with the lights still on. At 7 PM on the 26th, when the river was at low tide, Ye Qun Zhuang's brother found his phone on the stone steps by the river.
On January 31 at 9 AM, Ye Lucy's body was found in the river under the Tiger Pit Bridge in San Jiang Zhen. On February 3 at 17 AM, Ye Qun Zhuang's body emerged from the river under the Gujing Tiger Pit Bridge.
Police stated that according to the investigation, it could be confirmed that on the evening of January 25, Ye Qun Zhuang rode his motorbike along the river to find Ye Lucy. When Ye Lucy was in danger in the river, Ye Qun Zhuang unfortunately fell into the water while trying to save her and drowned.
The public security organs, in accordance with Article 9 of the Regulations of Guangdong Province on incentives and protection for courageous staff, determined that Ye Qun Zhuang displayed courageous behavior. His case has been submitted to the District Government for approval to recognize him as an advanced element of courage.
Ye Qun Zhuang's family is being taken care of in the aftermath of the incident. The leadership of the Xinhui District Party attaches great importance to the matter. The Gujing Committee and the town government have established a special event disposal team. District leaders, Gujing leaders, Furui police station leaders, and Lingbei Village Committee leaders have visited Ma Okimura and Ye Qun Zhuang's family members multiple times to express sympathy and condolences.
Next, the Civil Affairs Department will handle pension work in accordance with relevant policies. The education sector will provide Ye Qun Zhuang's son with free tuition and book fees from primary school to high school in local public schools according to policy, and living cost subsidies will also be given based on the situation.
