Recently, the Tongzhou branch of the Food and Drug Administration received a public report that a man surnamed Gu was sending short messages via mobile phone to sell "Viagra" produced by Pfizer Inc. in the United States. Because the price was significantly lower than that of Viagra sold in pharmacies, it was suspected to be counterfeit.
Law enforcement officers brought the medicine provided by the whistleblower to Pfizer Inc. for verification. Pfizer confirmed that the Viagra provided by the whistleblower was not a product manufactured by their company, thus being counterfeit. Subsequently, the law enforcement officers took samples of the medicine provided by the whistleblower and sent them to the Beijing Institute for Drug Control for testing. The results showed that the content of sildenafil citrate exceeded the standard, confirming it as counterfeit medicine. Meanwhile, after expert deliberation, it was determined that the excessive content of sildenafil citrate in Viagra could pose serious harm to human health.
Currently, Gu, who sold the counterfeit medicine, has been apprehended. The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Food and Drug Supervision has issued a special notice reminding citizens not to purchase this medicine. (Source: Beijing Evening News)
