Guangzhou ranked first in the quality of life index, do you believe it? Guangzhou Qianqian Community. I just could not believe that Guangzhou would rank first in several questions before. For example, the housing price issue, the commodity price issue, the medical treatment issue, the air quality issue. Food safety issues, traffic problems, salary issues, etc. In view of these issues, I think Guangzhou can never rank first. As we all know, a large part of Guangzhou's GDP is driven by housing prices. People in Guangzhou have a tradition: no house, no marriage, which then affects life. The average housing price in Guangzhou is above 13,000 yuan, and an average monthly income of 2,000 yuan means one has to be a house slave for more than half of their life even if they don't eat or drink. Moreover, how many houses in Guangzhou are bought by local people? Food safety issues keep emerging, such as gutter oil, fake eggs, and various other problems gradually coming to light. Is this what a city ranking first should look like? Guangzhou introduced the BRT, which is still worthy of praise. The BRT effectively solved the travel problems for citizens. The minimum wage introduced by Guangzhou effectively guarantees the lives of its citizens, but this is not something that can be resolved simply by introduction; there must also be supervision. Effective supervision is the best implementation. As long as the supervision is effective, it can completely enhance Guangzhou's law enforcement image. Some problems are still difficult for Guangzhou to rank first. Guangzhou should not rank first, but it will not rank last either.

Is Guangzhou's quality of life index ranked first nationwide?

The day before yesterday, the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Capital University of Economics and Business jointly released the first "China Urban Quality of Life Index Report." The survey showed that due to factors such as "fast-paced lifestyle" and "environmental pressure," among 30 provincial capital cities, Beijing ranked eighth, much lower than the similarly super-sized cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai, and also behind cities like Hohhot and Shijiazhuang.

Beijing has the fastest pace of life nationwide.

According to the relevant person in charge of the research team who conducted the report survey, the "quality of life index" is derived from a series of weighted objective and subjective indicators. Subjective indicators include satisfaction with income, living costs, medical security, living environment, pace of life, and convenience of living; objective indicators include per capita wealth, inflation rate, green space area, Engel coefficient, etc.

From the survey results, among the 30 provincial capital cities, 15 cities scored over 55 points on the quality of life index, exceeding the average score of 54.49. The top three cities were Guangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing ranked eighth. From a regional perspective, the objective index of quality of life in eastern cities was higher than in western cities, but the subjective satisfaction was lower than in the west, which was considered one of the reasons for Beijing's relatively low overall score. Taking Yinchuan and Beijing as examples, Yinchuan's total quality of life index ranked high (fourth place), related to its relaxed pace of life (48.68 points, ranked first); while Beijing's total quality of life index ranked low, largely due to its ultra-fast pace of life (38.03 points, ranked last).

Subjective feelings account for 40% weight.

Similarly, as a super-large city, why are Guangzhou and Shanghai ranked ahead while Beijing is so much lower? The authors of the report frankly stated that Beijing's environmental quality lags significantly behind.

Respondents' subjective feelings account for 40% of the weight, greatly influencing the overall results. For example, after the development of the west, residents' quality of life improved rapidly, and residents' satisfaction was relatively high. In terms of "living cost satisfaction," Shanghai and Beijing ranked 20th and 25th respectively, with subjective indices ranking 28th and 29th, indicating relatively high living costs.

Public Voices

● Miss Zheng: More efforts should be made in people's livelihood.

"Can Guangzhou rank first? It's unbelievable." Civil servant Miss Zheng was surprised when she heard about this, but after looking at the reference data, indicators, and comparing Beijing and Shanghai, she thought it was not surprising that Guangzhou ranked first.

Miss Zheng analyzed that in terms of pace of life, although Guangzhou has traffic jams, compared with Beijing and Shanghai, it is negligible. In terms of urban environment, after the Asian Games, the urban environment has improved significantly.

Miss Zheng suggested that Guangzhou should make more efforts in people's livelihood, be more transparent in administrative law enforcement, and let citizens have a sense of belonging.

● Miss Qiu: I'm surprised that Guangzhou ranks first.

"It's not that I feel unhappy, but our batch of graduates all have the same feeling." Citizen Miss Qiu said that she does not understand cities like Shanghai and Beijing well, but they should be similar to Guangzhou, "Compared with big cities, I prefer small cities. I'm surprised that Guangzhou ranks first."

"Quality of life should not only compare skyscrapers and cars, but rather where life feels more comfortable." She indicated that she and her classmates have been graduated for more than four years. Those who stayed in Guangzhou, compared with those who returned to their hometowns, cannot be compared in terms of quality of life, "Among the 30 provincial capital cities, it's not about who is better, there is no best, only worse."
