When they descended near the dam of Tiemenguan Hydropower Plant, they were trapped on steep cliffs for five hours. Later, they were rescued safely at 6 pm the same day by the Korla public security fire personnel. It is reported that the trapped location was about 800 meters above the ground. The trapped people said that due to the slippery mountain body and lack of necessary outdoor equipment, they could not descend and could only call the police for help. The Tiemenguan Scenic Area is located 8 kilometers north of Korla City, Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, in the rugged Kuruktagh Mountains. It is 14 kilometers upstream of the beautiful Peacock River in a steep canyon outlet. It was once an important route for transportation between southern and northern Xinjiang, and a vital point of the ancient "Silk Road".
