It was found that the sewage pipeline was damaged with a 1-meter-long and 1-centimeter-wide crack and a hole caused by construction. Currently, the city sewage treatment company has preliminarily formulated a repair plan. The repair equipment and personnel are already in place, fully carrying out the repair work. However, due to the burst pipeline being located near a stream, the pipeline is buried deep in the sand layer and is greatly affected by the Pearl River tide levels, making the repair environment complex and the repair quite challenging. It is understood that the fastest possible completion time for the repairs will be by 8:00 AM on November 30th.
It is reported that the sewage pressure pipe involved in this incident was drilled and blasted by Guangzhou Hengsheng Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the road reinforcement project of the Lizhiwan Comprehensive Management Project. After receiving the report, the city sewage treatment company quickly activated an emergency response plan, cordoning off the roads around the drilling site, suspending the operation of the Aokou sewage pumping station and the Lizhiwan sewage pumping station, and enhancing the scheduling of relevant river gate stations to minimize the impact of overflow sewage on the related rivers and sections of the Pearl River. It is introduced that the accident site is located where the Lizhiwan River flows into the Pearl River mouth. Sewage will not flow into the Lizhiwan River, but due to the pump station's shutdown, the water quality of the Lizhiwan River will be affected.
After the incident occurred, Zhang Guangning, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, paid close attention and made instructions. Wan Qingliang, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, and Su Zequn, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor, made instructions after receiving the report, requiring "mobilizing forces to carry out full-scale repairs and restoring normal operations as soon as possible."
The city sewage treatment company also called on all construction units to strengthen construction management, avoid reckless construction, jointly cherish the city's sewage network, and protect the urban water environment.
According to reports from the New Express, reporters Xie Yuanyuan and Zhang Xiaodan learned from Guangzhou Sewage Treatment Company that at 2:00 PM on the 26th, the DN1200 outlet pressure pipe of the Licaiwan sewage lifting pumping station at Pantiang Stream Mouth was drilled and exploded, causing large amounts of sewage to flood the streets and flow into the Pearl River. By 5:00 PM yesterday, the sewage flowing into the Pearl River was basically under control. The Licaiwan Stream was temporarily unaffected, while the Sima Stream water quality was slightly affected. The city sewage treatment company stated that the damaged sewage pipeline could be repaired as early as the day after tomorrow.
