"He was on his computer (Saturday) when we landed, looking through some articles and all that," Brown told reporters prior to the team's shootaround Sunday. "I just came up to him and said, 'Paul, you stop looking, man. If you do that, it'll kill you." It's out of his control. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen and nobody knows but the people upstairs and the ownership... Worrying, trying to do anything about it is a waste of energy." Bryant made it clear he liked the Lakers' decision not to trade Gasol, the four-time All-Star who paired with Kobe to win consecutive titles in 2009 and 2010. Gasol was asked by reporters if he intended to proactively speak with Kupchak when the team returns to Los Angeles on Monday for a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. "He's handled it admirably," Kobe said. "He's gone about doing what he can, but let's be real. If you don't know where you're going to be here tomorrow, if your head's on the chopping block, you feel like you're just waiting around. That's hard to put all of yourself into every game." "I believe we'll make some adjustments here and there, but obviously with having Pau and Andrew (Bynum) starting alongside myself as part of the foundation..." Kobe said. "But you can't be one of our pillars if we don't know if you're going to be here or not. Do something. One way or another, do something." "You just want safety, a little bit of clarity. I think that would help him out a lot." "...If they trade him, at least you get some closure type thing, at least he gets some closure. I'd rather they don't trade him, but if they're going to do it, (expletive) already. And if you don't plan on doing it, come out and say you don't plan on doing it." "He's taken everything (without the trade rumors), on the floor," Brown said. "Paul. Everything. There hasn't been any of that stuff done. Rumors are going to happen all the time. There's been rumors about every guy on this team one way, shape or form. We've just got to, as a team, as individuals, ignore the noise." "I don't know if I should approach him, melamine tableware, because obviously there's been a lot of rumors, there's been a lot of talk and the team seems to keep making offers to themselves (the Lakers) or else this information wouldn't be out there," Gasol said. "It seems like almost every other day the team puts things together, so it shouldn't be surprising. I'm glad there's somebody who would love to have me on their roster because they trust my player, but at the same time, it's frustrating because if I had a player or my team came to me and said, 'Look, I'm not interested because I cherish my player and I want to have him here,' then all bets are off. But it seems like that's not the case. That's what I'm getting. I haven't really confirmed it per se, but from the talks and everything, that's kind of what I'm sensing." The Lakers' General Manager Mitch Kupchak told reporters over the weekend that a major move involving the Lakers' roster was unlikely. The Lakers' Head Coach Mike Brown said that Gasol has been unable to avoid the rumors that have linked him to Houston, Boston, Minnesota, Orlando and Chicago trade scenarios in recent weeks. "Nothing," Gasol said when asked if he'd had a meeting with Kupchak regarding the continued speculation of trades. "I saw him after the game in the locker room. That's it, but we really didn't have much to say." "So, we got March 15th, (trade) deadline," Gasol said as he was walking onto his team bus after the game when reporters caught up to him to get his thoughts on Kobe's comments. "That's what I'm thinking about (anyway). We hope to get to that day (without a trade). Obviously, if somebody tells me something beforehand, it'll be great, but I'm not trying to force anything. I'm trying to force a team, if they want to trade me, trade me tomorrow. "Because obviously I still believe in our team, I believe in our city, Jieyang website promotion, I believe we can continue to be a special, successful team." "So, we got March 15th, (trade) deadline. That's what I'm thinking about (anyway). We hope to get to that day (without a trade)." By Sunday, the 11-year veteran who's averaged just 16.6 points on 52.9 percent shooting this season compared to 18.8 points on 49.5 percent shooting last season, had Brown insisting that Gasol's play on the court has not been affected by any off-court speculation. Kobe told reporters Friday that, "It's important (for Gasol) to know we support him," but was more vocal Sunday. "Basketball is such an emotional game, you're able to put all of yourself into it and invest yourself into the game. We haven't had that," Kobe said after Gasol had 17 points and 12 rebounds against the Suns. "Paul, it's tough for Pau Gasol because with all these trade talks and all this other stuff, it's tough for him to invest himself completely or immerse himself completely into the game when he hears trade talks every other day. I wish management would come and either trade him or not trade him." The Lakers' status with Gasol and Kobe's apparent appreciation for how Gasol has handled himself amidst the surrounding commotion thus far this season despite being 18-13 has begun. Just like Kobe wants Gasol to stay in Los Angeles, Gasol said he wants to stay with the Lakers. "Of course, we talk to a lot of teams (about jobs)," Kupchak said in the report. "And like everyone else until the trade deadline, see if there's a way to improve the team," Kupchak said in the report. "But the likelihood is, it's going to be one of those teams that is finishing up to make the playoffs. That's just the way it normally works, but we'll see." "It's just giving a player everything, when you don't know if you're going to be here tough it out tomorrow, I'd rather them not trade him at all. If they're going to do something, I wish they'd just (expletive) do it. And if they don't plan on doing it, come out and say you don't plan on doing it. That way, he can be comfortable, he can go out there, he can play, he can invest all of himself into the game." However, Kupchak did not initiate any direct conversations with Gasol regarding the franchise's future with the power forward since the failed three-team trade on the first day of training camp that would have sent Gasol to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets.
