Preface: General Principles of Prediction
Medicine and Yi are of the same origin. The outer trigram and inner trigram have different yin-yang, cold-heat properties, and each hexagram position also has corresponding cold-heat-acid-sweet attributes due to its position. Yang symbols and outer trigram symbols must be more active, and their functions must rely on their realization; Yin symbols and inner trigram symbols must be quieter, and the material aspects of things must take shape through them. Yin is the body, Yang is the use; Inner is the body, Outer is the use; Branch is the body, Stem is the use; Static is the body, Dynamic is the use; Disease is the body, Medicine is the use. In short, treat cold with heat and heat with cold, then all diseases of people, things, and events can be cured.
Medicinal effects have meridian tropism, so each hexagram and symbol should also have meridian tropism. Their attention, force, and emotional tendencies all belong somewhere, have routes and purposes. As for their effectiveness, it depends on the strength of the force and counterforce. If Yang prevails, it will feel like being bathed in warm spring sunshine, smiling and cheerful; if Yin prevails, it will feel like snowfall in winter, shivering both physically and mentally, longing for someone to bring charcoal until the sun shines again.
Medicines have nature and taste, and the various symbols and six relationships, five elements, and yin-yang positions in the hexagram also have inherent natures and tastes. Those who study hexagrams cannot fail to know this. "Prescribing" is like writing a prescription. Each medicine carries energy in a specific direction, incorporating spatial energy into the medicine, which is absorbed by the human body, thereby curing diseases. Once the nature and taste of the hexagram symbols are understood, the spatiotemporal energy of each symbol is known, and thus the auspiciousness and ominousness of people, things, and events are also known.

First line
Note: 1. Perilla has a pungent flavor and warm nature, pungent can disperse, warmth can dispel cold, thus it has the effect of dispersing wind-cold. Reed root has a sweet flavor and cold nature, sweetness generates body fluids, cold clears heat, thus it has the effect of clearing heat and generating body fluids. 2. Medicines with the same nature and taste generally have similar effects, such as pungent-warm medicines mostly having the effects of inducing perspiration and dispelling cold or warming the interior, bitter-cold medicines mostly having the effects of clearing heat and purging Fire or detoxifying. 3. Same nature but different tastes, all warm-natured medicines have the commonality of warming the interior and dispelling cold, but Ephedra is pungent-warm for inducing perspiration, Astragalus is sweet-warm for tonifying Qi, Atractylodes is bitter-warm for drying dampness, Schisandra chinensis is sour-warm for astringing, deer antler is salty-warm for tonifying the Kidneys. 4. Same taste but different natures, all pungent-tasting medicines have the commonality of dispersing or regulating Qi, but mint is pungent-cool for dispersing wind-heat, perilla is pungent-warm for dispersing wind-cold, processed aconite root is pungent-hot for warming the interior and restoring Yang, gypsum is pungent-cold for removing great heat, etc. 5. One nature combined with two or more tastes increases the corresponding effects. For example, Angelica sinensis is sweet and pungent, both tonifies blood and promotes blood circulation; Atractylodes macrocephala is bitter and sweet, both dries dampness and tonifies the spleen and benefits Qi, etc. 6. Both Ephedra and ginger have a pungent-warm nature and share the commonality of inducing perspiration and dispelling cold, but Ephedra has a stronger sweating effect and can also relieve asthma and promote urination; ginger has a weaker sweating effect but has the effect of warming the stomach and stopping vomiting. 7. "Medicine treats diseases, toxicity is the ability, what is called toxic medicine, is due to the bias of flavor." Mildly toxic such as Pinellia ternata and Kansui, slightly toxic such as Changshan and Evodia rutaecarpa, highly toxic such as Croton tiglium and Aconitum carmichaelii. Toxic medicines have strong effects, quick results, suitable for attacking evil and curing diseases; non-toxic medicines have gentle effects, slow and mild, suitable for adjusting and supplementing, appropriate for chronic diseases, weak constitution, elderly, mild diseases, new diseases.
8. Meridian attribution refers to the partiality and limitation of drug action sites, therefore, drug use should be targeted. For example, lung channel diseases often manifest as chest tightness, panting cough, etc., Apricot kernel and Platycodon grandiflorum attributed to the lung channel can be used; liver channel diseases often manifest as flank pain, convulsions, etc., Gastrodia elata and Scorpion attributed to the liver channel can be used; heart channel diseases often manifest as unconsciousness, palpitations, etc., Vermilion and Ziziphus jujuba seeds attributed to the heart channel can be used. Dry ginger, Scutellaria baicalensis, Lilium brownii, and T苈 seeds all belong to the lung channel, treating cough due to lung diseases, but dry ginger warms the cold of the lungs, Scutellaria clears the heat of the lungs, Lilium tonifies the deficiency of the lungs, T苈 seeds purge the fullness of the lungs, one must prescribe according to the meridian, not confuse them.
Essay One: Initial Exploration of Surname Prediction with Six-Yao
Ding Dong
Theoretically speaking, all things in the universe possess the five-element nature. Therefore, using six-yao to predict surnames, zodiac signs, or numbers should be feasible, although the difficulty is quite high. This requires practitioners of this art to gradually explore and summarize experience, not be conservative, and mutually discuss to discover and master the underlying rules. I humbly present my insights here for the benefit of experts.
1. Let's look at this divination from Zhouyi Tian Di: Predicting My Surname
Stems and Branches: Year Geng Yin, Month Gui Wei, Day Ding Hai, Hour Wu Shen
Decade Empties: Wu Wei, Shen You, Wu Wei, Yin Mao
Divine Spirits: Traveling Horse - Si, Peach Blossom - Zi, Daily Luck - Wu, Noble Person - You, Hai
Gèn Palace: Heaven Marshes Ritual, Zhen Palace: Thunder Water Release
Six Spirits Hidden Spirit [Original Graph] [Changed Graph]
Azure Dragon Brothers Ren Earth Dog O -> Brothers Geng Earth Dog
Black Tortoise Wife Wealth Bing Water Son O -> Sons Ren Metal Monkey World O -> Sons Geng Metal Monkey Response
White Tiger Hidden Parents Ren Fire Horse Parents Geng Fire Horse
Snake Brothers Ding Earth Ox Parents Wu Fire Horse
Hook Chen Official Ghost Ding Wood Rabbit Response Parents Wu Earth Ox World
Red Sparrow Parents Ding Fire Snake Official Ghost Wu Wood Tiger
At first glance at this graph, I truly had no idea where to start, as I hadn't previously encountered related knowledge and had no resources to refer to. Thus, I could only rely on my own intuition. Didn't the Book of Changes say: "Look within oneself"? Following this general principle of Yi studies, I first used the six-yao method to predict my own surname. The moment the graph appeared, only the wood element corresponded relatively well with my surname. Wood represents wood at the hour of Mao, reaching the official ghost yao, appearing twice, quite fitting for my surname. After much thought, I concluded that using the official ghost yao as the active symbol aligns with the natural way. Why? Here are the reasons:
1. Surnames are essentially the "head" in names, corresponding to society, this head belongs to the official ghost yao; accordingly, in six-yao, it also needs to examine the upper sixth yao and fifth ruler yao.
2. People have "nicknames" and "official names". Nicknames are aliases without surnames; official names differ as they are formal names usually including surnames. Especially when someone holds an official position, it becomes even more evident, such as Minister Li, Commander Wang, Chairman Mao, where the official title and surname are integrated, proving this point.
3. Everyone is born of parents, above whom is "ancestors", corresponding to six-yao, also the official ghost yao. Why? The official ghost yao generates the parent yao. Thus, the surname of ancestors is passed down in a direct line. When making specific judgments, examining the five elements of the parent yao is also essential. Here, it is important to note that the wife-wealth yao also generates the official ghost yao, so the five elements of the wife-wealth yao may also have the possibility of a surname, leading to everything being possible. The Way of Yi adapts to change, profound indeed.
For this particular graph, at the time, I only considered the official ghost yao, without taking the parent yao and yao positions into account, merely thinking: "Your surname has a grass radical or wood radical, likely the surname Yang." Of course, the dynamic connection between earth dog and wood rabbit was considered, otherwise, the character "Yang" would not have been chosen. Rabbit and dog combine to form fire, fire represents the sun, "Yang", with wood and sun, hence the character "Yang" was selected. Later, the querent provided feedback that it was the character "Jin" (meaning "to advance"). Looking at it now, the parent yao can be combined, as the parent yao also faces fire, this fire enters the tomb treasury empty and broken, clearly representing the image of fire or sun inside or below. Thus, finding a similar character in the Hundred Family Names should be relatively easy.
2. Let's look at another example from Zhouyi Tian Di.
Year of birth: Year Gender: Female Inquiry: Predict my surname
Stems and Branches: Year Geng Yin, Month Gui Wei, Day Ding Hai, Hour Ji You
Decade Empties: Wu Wei, Shen You, Wu Wei, Yin Mao
Divine Spirits: Traveling Horse - Si, Peach Blossom - Zi, Daily Luck - Wu, Noble Person - You, Hai
Dui Palace: Thunder Marsh Returning Younger Sister (Return Soul) Qian Palace: Heaven Earth Denial (Six Harmony)

White Tiger Sons Ding Water Pig Official Ghost Geng Fire Horse Official Ghost Ren Fire Horse
Snake Parents Ding Earth Ox World Parents Yi Wood Rabbit World
Hook Chen Wife Wealth Ding Wood Rabbit O -> Official Ghost Yi Fire Snake
Red Sparrow Official Ghost Ding Fire Snake O -> Parents Yi Earth Goat
My judgment at the time: "Starting from the official ghost yao, your surname has differences in complexity, a compound character, with more strokes connected, having the nature of fire. Guess one: Cao."
Querent feedback: Yang.
This official ghost yao fire arises from the transformation of the wife-wealth wood rabbit, rabbit and dog combine, quite vivid, unfortunately, my level is too low, only able to act as a post-event Zhuge Liang.
3. Below is an example I posted on Longyin Network, also for further discussion and verification. Interested Yi friends can cross-reference these three graphs and surely gain insight. Predict Name (Practice Graph) What is his surname?
Stems and Branches: Year Geng Yin, Month Gui Wei, Day Ji Chou, Hour Wu Chen
Decade Empties: Wu Wei, Shen You, Wu Wei, Xu Hai
Six Spirits Hidden Spirit Can Palace: Thunder Fire Abundance Zhen Palace: Zhen as Thunder (Six Clash)

Azure Dragon Wife Wealth Geng Fire Horse Wife Wealth Geng Fire Horse
Black Tortoise Brothers Ji Water Pig ○→ Officials Geng Earth Dragon Response
White Tiger Officials Ji Earth Ox Response Sons Geng Wood Tiger
Vine Snake Sons Ji Wood Rabbit Sons Geng Water Rat
Feedback: Hu.
Personal opinion: When predicting surnames, the official ghost yao should be used. In this graph, the official ghost appears twice, indicating it should be a compound character; the movement of the brothers yao also shows this image, simultaneously indicating a left-right structure, positioning it more finely (due to the transformation into the official ghost). The official ghost yao is associated with earth, carrying the soil radical or moon radical (earth is meat), the official ghost yao facing the hook Chen at the upper sixth ancestral temple yao, having the meaning of "ancient". The ugly earth official ghost facing the response yao on the daily builder darkly moving, indicating this surname does not have a traditional form. Welcome all Yi friends to offer differing opinions.
