Within one and a half hours, contestants were required to design and install a sewage treatment system independently, ensuring that the system runs smoothly without any flaws.
On October 25th, the final of the 7th "Revitalization Cup" National Youth Vocational Skills Competition entered the practical operation competition phase. The reporter specifically went to the instrumentation and automation specialty competition site to uncover the secrets of this showdown among the country's best technicians.
Yesterday morning, the first session of the practical operation competition for instrumentation and automation workers was held at Liaoning Toyota Jinbei Technician College. Twenty contestants fiercely competed in two projects: design installation and automated system debugging.
The design installation project comprehensively tested the contestants' abilities in terms of design thinking and skillful techniques. The competition question required the contestants to design and install a sewage treatment system according to the given standards and components.
To meet the task requirements, contestants had to first clearly draw their design ideas on the blueprint before proceeding with the installation operations. Beside each contestant was an instrument placement platform, where over forty components of various shapes and sizes were placed. Not all these components needed to be installed on the sewage treatment system; some were not applicable. Contestants had to select the most suitable components for their designs and install them onto the system to ensure its smooth operation.
During the process of assembling instruments, pipelines, and parts together, the contestants focused intently to ensure that there were no leaks at every connection point.
To ensure fairness in the competition, five invigilators and five judges were arranged for the design installation competition. Each invigilator was responsible for monitoring two contestants. "Since the contestants' workbenches are adjacent, the invigilators must prevent exchanges or inquiries between contestants. Additionally, if dangerous operations are detected during installation, timely reminders will be given," the head judge explained.
After all contestants completed their design and installation tasks, the five judges would jointly inspect each contestant’s system to determine whether it could operate as required by the task, whether the used components met the design standards, and whether there were any issues such as water leakage or safety problems, all of which would serve as scoring points.
Each of the five judges scored each contestant individually, removing the highest and lowest scores, then averaging the remaining three scores to determine the contestant's final score.
A total of 80 contestants participated in the practical operation competition for instrumentation and automation workers, divided into four sessions. Yesterday's session was the first. To ensure both fairness and prevent contestants from sharing questions, the topics for each session were different, but the assessment points remained the same. By reporter Xuyue Jiao.
