Mengpo Soup is also called the Oblivion Water; one sip erases both past and present. All the love and hatred, all the gains and losses of a lifetime, are forgotten completely with this bowl of Mengpo Soup. Those whom one cherished in this life, those whom one hated, will be met again in the next life without recognition.
However, some people refuse to drink the Mengpo Soup for various reasons. Having no choice, Mengpo agrees but marks these individuals by leaving dimples on their faces. These people must jump into the River of Forgetfulness and endure the torment of water and fire for thousands of years before being reincarnated. They will carry the memories of their previous lives along with the dimples, searching for their former lovers.
