Graduated from Peking Union Medical College in 1967, studied at McGill University Medical School in Canada in 1984, and trained at Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark in 1985. From 1986 to 1992, he served as the Director of the Ultrasound Department at the Cancer Research Institute of Peking University Medical School. From 1992 to 2004, he was the Director of the Ultrasound Department at the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army. He has also served as an editorial board member of the Chinese Medical Journal, a judge for the National Natural Science Foundation, Chairman of the Beijing Ultrasound Society of the Chinese Medical Association, Vice-Chairman of the PLA Ultrasound Medicine Professional Committee, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Ultrasonic Imaging, and a member of the Ninth and Tenth Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Since 1984, he has been engaged in ultrasound imaging research, focusing on the pathological basis of image characteristics of liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic tumor lesions and the clinical application of interventional ultrasound in the abdomen, health management. Professor Dong has published more than 80 papers internationally and domestically. He was the first in China to conduct clinical application research on interventional ultrasound and edited and published China's first "Clinical Interventive Ultrasound." He has completed and undertaken eight national and military research projects, four of which were key projects. In 1993, he received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the State Council for his contributions to the development of medical care in China. He has won over ten awards for scientific and technological achievements and medical achievements from Beijing, the Ministry of Health, and the General Logistics Department. In recent years, his work on interventional ultrasound-guided treatment for liver cancer has achieved remarkable results, reaching international and domestic leading levels.
