Study Abroad Q&A: Can a student visit visa be renewed in the UK?

Q: I would like to ask about the student visitor visa to come to the UK for 6 months. My English proficiency is IELTS 4.5, and I plan to reapply to a university. Can I renew my visa in the UK? Some friends said yes, others said no. Could you please provide some guidance! Also, a classmate of mine plans to go directly from the UK to a school in the US. Is it easier to get a visa from here?

A: The fundamental difference between a student visitor visa and a student visa is that the student visitor visa is only valid for 6 months, and you must leave the country before the visa expires; it cannot be renewed in the UK. However, the U.S. Embassy in London does not restrict people with a student visa from applying for a U.S. visa. As for whether it's easy or not, it’s hard to say, but having had a UK visa for studying, such as in Korea, might be better than never having applied for a study visa at all.
