The prosecution accused the 53-year-old nanny Zeng of taking advantage of her employer's absence to steal over 20 pieces of jewelry and watches from their home. Suspect Zeng was arrested by the police just as she was about to flee back to her hometown.
The prosecution stated that on the morning of April 24th, while her employer was out on business, nanny Zeng cleaned the house as usual. By accident, she knocked a lady's handbag to the ground. When she saw two envelopes fall out, she opened them and found 15,000 yuan in cash inside, which led her to have greedy thoughts and decide to keep the money for herself. Subsequently, Zeng stole all the gold jewelry and cash from the homeowner's residence. That afternoon, when the employer returned home, they discovered that Zeng had suddenly disappeared along with their valuables, and promptly reported the incident to the police. Through investigation, the police caught Zeng, who was trying to escape back to her hometown in Chongqing, in a hotel room in Dongcheng District. They seized more than 18,000 yuan in stolen cash and over 20 stolen pieces of jewelry and other items on the spot.
