Recently, Nansha District Court sentenced the defendant Yi某某 to 8 years in prison for intentional homicide.
Unsuccessful Courtship Leads to Writing a Will
It is reported that Yi某某 and the admired female worker Feng某 were both employees of a furniture company in Nansha District. After meeting in late 2009, Yi某某 developed feelings for Feng某 and began expressing his affection to her in June 2010, asking her to start a romantic relationship. However, Feng某 rejected him, and her mother also opposed their romance.
Yi某某 harbored resentment and wrote a will on June 21, 2010, stating that he was extremely heartbroken and wanted to relieve his pain by taking his own life.
Screwdriver Attack
At around 10 PM on July 30, 2010, while working in the workshop, Yi某某 attempted to chat with Feng某. However, Feng某 turned her head to look at him once and then ignored him. Feng’s mother, standing nearby, also gave him a harsh stare. As a result, Yi某某 lost control of his emotions and suddenly had the idea of killing Feng某 so they could die together. Subsequently, Yi某某 grabbed a screwdriver, approached Feng某 who was working at her workstation, and stabbed her repeatedly on the right side of her head, near her right ear, and on her back with his right hand. Feng’s mother immediately stepped forward to stop him but was also injured in the neck by Yi某某. Then, Yi某某 continued to stab Feng某 who had already fallen onto the workbench.
Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison
After being stopped by other employees on the scene, Yi某某 ran to the workshop passage and attempted to stab himself in the chest with the screwdriver to commit self-harm but was eventually overpowered and handed over to the police. According to the forensic examination, Feng某 suffered a skull fracture caused by a sharp object, which was classified as a minor injury. Both Feng’s mother and the defendant Yi某某 sustained slight injuries. The court determined that Yi某某 disregarded national law, and out of spite for not being able to win the affections of Feng某, intentionally attempted to kill her. Since the crime was not completed due to reasons beyond his will, it was considered an attempted crime. Consequently, Yi某某 was found guilty of attempted intentional homicide and sentenced to 8 years in prison.
