"Breakfast at Hubu Alley, night snacks at Jiqing Street" is perhaps the experience that best combines delicious food with the vibrant flavors of Wuhan life. On the morning of the 22nd, I made an appointment with Chen Nian Pu'er to have breakfast at Hubu Alley, and we agreed not to miss it... Hubu Alley has breakfast pastries that Chen Nian Pu'er has praised countless times, how could I not be full of anticipation? Despite its fame, Hubu Alley isn't clearly marked on GOOGLE Maps or BAIDU Maps, leaving me puzzled as to why. Located on Minzhu Road in Wuchang Liberation Road, a bianzhong bell inscribed with the three characters "Hubu Alley" hangs high above the market street, and the air is filled with the scent of food, truly making one's mouth water! About 30 meters inside, we reached the northern entrance of Hubu Alley which runs north-south. I finally met Chen Nian Pu'er, who still had oil stains around his mouth after arriving early. As soon as we met, he said with a tone of someone who didn't know hunger: "How come you're just getting here now? I've already eaten almost everything..." Upon hearing this, my feeling of annoyance was incredibly strong! Tasting good food must involve everyone progressing together, even scrambling for bites to truly enjoy the flavor. Fortunately, Chen Nian Pu'er is known as a big eater, and after finishing the first round, it was only considered as a prelude... Ha ha. We slowly walked inside together, and the variety of snacks opened our eyes, leaving us unsure where to start. The introduction on the engraved map at the alley entrance states that Hubu Alley is a century-old lane. Since the 1980s, it has gathered nearly a hundred kinds of special snacks, forming today's "First Breakfast Lane of Han Flavor." Chen Nian Pu'er told me that when coming here, hot dry noodles, three-fresh bean skin, and rice cakes must be tried, with the preferred choice being Cai Lin Ji near the southern entrance. Wuhan people love hot dry noodles so much that during the uniform price adjustment, it even caught the attention of the municipal government. After trying them, they were indeed very tasty and authentic! Especially the sesame sauce topping, which was much more fragrant and smooth compared to Wuhan restaurants in Shenzhen! Determinedly taking pictures of each snack prepared for tasting to share with everyone: in order are hot dry noodles, three-fresh bean skin, soup-filled buns... After finishing the first round, a short rest was necessary before preparing for the second round. Walking back along the way, the various foods on the roadside didn't satisfy my hunger but did satisfy my camera. Fish cakes, freshly fried rice cakes, oil-fried bean skin cut into blocks, and some unnamed items... Solving a rice cake under the red pillars and having a bowl of tofu pudding still left me wanting more. Thus, the group surged into the Jiangmin Dumpling Shop at the alley entrance, each eating a bowl of fresh meat small dumplings, finally satisfying our cravings! Everyone instinctively looked at each other and smiled... Since the next stop was the nearby Yangtze River Bridge watchtower, our group returned to Hubu Alley and exited from the south... The old man sharpening knives by the road seemed quite displeased with my camera... So only a photo of him and the old narrow alley behind him remains. If it weren't for the old man's fierce knife-sharpening stance, I would have taken a close-up... Exiting the southern alley entrance, we discovered that Hubei TV was planning to produce a food program here today... The small road before the entrance is undergoing renovation and renewal, becoming an ancient-style street. A television MM in pink suspenders pants sat attentively at the table, asking the master to carve her a clay figure likeness. Being television workers, they were accustomed to cameras, and regardless of onlookers watching and filming, they paid no mind... To be continued, more pictures are stored in the space album...
