On May 25 and 26 this year, the Intermediate People's Court of Zhumadian City delivered the verdict to both the plaintiff and defendant parties. The judgment showed: Defendant Xiao Fang (pseudonym) was found guilty of intentional homicide and sentenced to life imprisonment with deprivation of political rights for life.

November 20 last year was a Saturday. That day after lunch, Xiao Ming (13 years old, pseudonym) and Xiao Liang (13 years old, pseudonym) went out to play together with Xiao Fang (14 years old). These three youths were from Wangzhuang Village, Rendian Town, Queshan County, surrounded by mountains, and they all attended Rendian No. 1 Junior High School.

When Xiao Fang left home, he had already mixed dog poison that he had purchased beforehand into a plastic cup containing beer, which he then tightly capped and brought with him. While playing on the mountain north of the village, Xiao Ming and Xiao Liang drank the beer from the cup and subsequently died of poisoning. After identification, it was determined that Xiao Ming and Xiao Liang both died of cyanide poisoning.

Afterwards, Xiao Fang confessed that due to jealousy towards Xiao Ming's good academic performance, he conceived the idea of making him disappear so that his mother would no longer compare them.

Villagers: The children are most affected

"Those three kids, like little geese, were all very lovable. The unimaginable poisoning that occurred among them is the result of parents' inappropriate comparisons." According to villagers, after the poisoning incident, Xiao Fang's family sold all their valuables to compensate Xiao Ming's and Xiao Liang's families; Xiao Fang's parents have now gone out to work and dare not live in the village anymore.

Meanwhile, each class held multiple large discussions regarding this matter. Through these discussions, the children recognized and understood the event, and rationality made them no longer panic, gradually eliminating their psychological shadows.

"Construction of students' mental health, especially during the elementary school stage, needs to be strengthened," said Yan Wei, a veteran psychological counselor from the Zhumadian City Chaoyang Psychological Counseling Center, when I called him yesterday afternoon.
