Departing from his tough guy image in military-themed TV dramas, Duan Yihong in a long robe gives the audience a refreshing impression. When he talks about his lover in the film and director outside of it, Yu Feihong, he carefully uses the word "obstinate". "This movie has existed in Yu Feihong's heart for too long; every shot, every scene already had a blueprint. So at the scene, we actors with ideas would give her three or four different performances, but on the editing table, she still used the set she had planned out long ago." Gao Hu in "Love in the Afterlife" only makes a "cameo" appearance as Yu Feihong's brother, but one scene took two weeks to shoot, mainly because it rained non-stop when Gao Hu arrived in Yunnan.
