Microsoft Releases English Version of Windows Vista SP1

Microsoft has just released the first batch (wave0) of the official standalone installation packages for Windows Vista SP1, but it only includes five languages: English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. The full-language version (wave1), which will include Simplified Chinese among 36 other languages, will be available in April. However, there is a possibility that it could be released earlier or delayed.

In addition to the standalone installation package, Windows Update has also started pushing out Vista SP1. Therefore, users who want to upgrade a single machine or do not wish to download the standalone package can choose automatic updates, which would be more convenient.

The knowledge base article number for Vista SP1 is KB936330. The file name for the 32-bit standalone installation package is Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe, with a size of 434.5MB. The file name for the 64-bit standalone installation package is Windows6.0-KB936330-X64-wave0.exe, with a size of 726.5MB.

From the properties of the standalone installation file, the version number of Vista SP1 is 6.0.6001.17028 (the system version after installation will be 6.0.6001.18000). From the digital signature of the file, the signing date was nearly two months ago on February 1, 2008. These are identical to the properties of the recently leaked installation package.

Given this, the multi-language Vista SP1 installation package completed on February 9 should be the final official version. Users who have already upgraded or are considering upgrading do not need to wait any longer.

Additionally, Microsoft has provided an update patch numbered KB947821, mainly for installing future Vista updates. It is recommended to apply this update.
