Scene one: Jingqiu joins the labor, her foot is broken but she refuses to go to the hospital, so Laosan scratches himself with a knife in order to take Jingqiu to the hospital. Before leaving, under the Beigu Mountain, Jingqiu's mother lays down three strict rules about how many years he cannot come to see Jingqiu. Just before he leaves, he bandages her foot again with meticulous care. The two lovers who are forced to part both have tears in their eyes, which moves people deeply.

There are several scenes in the story that probably move all the audience.

Scene two: After Jingqiu returns from visiting the sick Laosan, they bid farewell across the river. Because they are too far apart, they can't truly embrace, so they pretend to embrace with their hands. That was their last date. The quiet little river separates their bodies but cannot separate their love. They slowly move along the riverbank, bidding each other a sorrowful farewell, tears streaming down their faces...

Scene three: On his deathbed, Laosan struggles to open his eyes when he hears Jingqiu's voice. He still remembers the two-person photo stuck on the ceiling, already in his dying breaths. This is his attachment, his unforgettable Jingqiu, and it's touching.

In that era, there was such pure and clean love, and only Zhang Yimou could shoot such a beautiful love story.

The hawthorn tree is originally an ordinary plant, but here it symbolizes unforgettable love, truly moving. Although it was during the Cultural Revolution, the beautiful love between Laosan and Jingqiu isn't as tragic as Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. It's precisely this quiet, sweet love that contrasts sharply with the backdrop of the times, like inhaling a breath of fresh air, instantly feeling refreshed.

The ending is somewhat regrettable; Laosan dies, and this love Jingqiu can only remember for a lifetime. The lovers ultimately do not become a couple.
