Before ignition, the furnace and flue must be purged to eliminate any residual combustible gases, preventing explosions during ignition. The purge time should be no less than 5 minutes. For pulverized coal boilers, the primary air ducts must also be purged; for oil-fired boilers, the oil pipes and oil nozzles should be purged with steam to ensure the oil path is clear. Currently, many power plants use light oil for ignition. Light oil ignites easily, produces less pollution on heat exchange surfaces, but is much more expensive than heavy oil. After light oil is ignited, the furnace temperature gradually rises, and it takes about 30 to 40 minutes before coal powder burners can be engaged to ensure stable ignition of the coal powder. Whether using an oil nozzle or a coal powder burner for ignition, it's best to initially engage no fewer than two units to stabilize combustion. If the fuel enters the furnace but hasn't ignited or goes out, immediately cut off the fuel supply and purge the furnace and flue according to pre-ignition requirements before attempting re-ignition; otherwise, a furnace explosion may often occur.
