If I meet you in heaven, will you still remember who I am?
If I meet you in heaven, will you still be the same as before?
I must be strong, but I can't. I don't belong here; I only belong to you.
If I meet you in heaven, will you hold my hand tightly?
If I meet you in heaven, will you help me stay strong?
I want to find the way from night to day because I know I need to find you.
Please take me with you; I believe there will surely be peace in heaven.
Please take me with you; I know there are no more tears in heaven.
When the five-story building collapsed, Frost was working overtime in the office on the first floor, eating a late-night snack that Stone had brought her. They were a newlywed couple of just a few months, deeply in love. Stone, eight years older than Frost, had doted on her ever since they met three years ago. Because they lived in different cities and despite their efforts, they couldn’t transfer to the same city. Only six months earlier did Stone resign from his job and move alone to Frost's city.
Frost had a report that needed to be submitted the next day, but due to an error in one data point, the total wouldn’t add up correctly. She had no choice but to continue working overtime at night. By 10:30 PM, she still hadn’t found the problem and called her husband to vent her frustrations. Stone then brought her a late-night snack and came to accompany her while checking the document’s data together. When she saw her husband walk into the office, all her troubles immediately disappeared. Stone had always been her pillar; although others saw her as a very capable girl, in front of Stone, she was always a small woman. Looking at her husband's handsome face, her mood was like the starry sky outside—brilliant. Stone lovingly stroked her hair and ordered: "Be good, go eat something. Let me check." So Frost obediently sat across from Stone with the snack, watching him affectionately while eating. His face, everything about him, was what she could never get tired of. She believed that with her husband's involvement, there was nothing in this world that couldn't be done. Sure enough, within fifteen minutes, Stone found the error and was smiling, ready to tease his wife a bit. But at that moment, the office building, which had been scheduled for demolition a year ago but was still being used, seemed unable to bear the load any longer and suddenly collapsed without warning.
In a matter of seconds, the two were buried under the rubble. After an unknown amount of time, when Frost woke up from unconsciousness, it was pitch black around her, and she momentarily didn’t know where she was. A hollow concrete slab was pressing on her body, but luckily, another slab supported one end of it. Though she couldn’t move, it wasn’t hurting her. Her unconsciousness was caused by something hitting her head, and her leg seemed to have been hit by something else, perhaps broken and bleeding, but because the board was pressing down, she couldn’t reach her calf. There was pain in her shoulder and back, and when she touched it, she realized it was also bleeding.
"Stone! Stone! Where are you?" Frost suddenly remembered her husband and called out. No response. She was terrified and started sobbing softly.
"Frost, I'm here... How... Are you? Have... You been injured?" Stone's faint voice came from beside her. She remembered that at the moment of the collapse, Stone had thrown himself over her, but now how could he be away, she couldn’t recall.
"Husband! How... Are you?!" Frost was shocked by the abnormality in her husband's voice.
"I'm fine. Just trapped and can't move." Stone's tone suddenly became calm as usual, saying: "Treasure, don't be afraid, I'm here, don't be afraid!" Frost felt Stone's hand reaching hers, and she quickly grabbed it tightly. Stone held Frost's hand, trembling slightly but firmly, reducing her fear significantly.
"My calf seems to be bleeding..." Frost continued: "A stone slab is pressing on my thigh. Husband, are we going to die here?"
"How could that be? People will come to rescue us soon." Stone tightened his grip on his wife's hand: "Use my tie to bind your bleeding leg. If you can't reach your calf, bind your thigh, as tight as possible." He withdrew his hand and handed her the tie. Following her husband's instructions, Frost tied her bleeding leg, but lacking strength, she couldn’t effectively stop the bleeding. If no one came to rescue them, wouldn’t they bleed to death? Frost thought fearfully. She extended her hand and held Stone's tightly; only this way could she feel less scared. She suddenly noticed that her husband's hand was shaking. Could Stone also be afraid? At this moment, a rat squeaked somewhere nearby, and Frost screamed. She had always been most afraid of rats, and now in this situation, even if a rat climbed onto her head, she would be powerless to resist.
"Wife, don't be afraid. I'm here. Rats won't dare to come near. If they do, I'll kill them!" Stone knew what Frost was afraid of and deliberately spoke lightly: "Heaven has given us a chance to share hardships together. Is your bleeding stopped?"
"Not yet, it's still bleeding." In Stone's jokes, Frost relaxed a bit: "Oh well, if I die, at least I die with you. As long as I'm with you, I’m not afraid of anything!"
Frost remembered the circumstances of meeting Stone three years ago. It was her last year of university during her internship period in a company in Stone's city. One day, they met by chance in an elevator. Stone's face was filled with amazement, but Frost seemed indifferent. Only two kinds of men could attract her attention: the smart ones and the handsome ones. And the man staring at her in the elevator clearly showed intelligence beneath his handsome face. Although it seemed mysterious, later interactions confirmed her insight—Stone was undoubtedly an extremely intelligent man. But only in front of her did he appear somewhat foolish. Thinking about it, Frost almost burst out laughing.
Once, Frost had severe abdominal pain and lay on the bed pale-faced. Stone sat by her bedside, his worried expression paler than hers. He took off his coat, lay beside her, and hugged her tightly. Bit by bit, warmth passed from his body to hers, and she indulged in his embrace, forgetting the unbearable pain. The power of love, who can explain it clearly?
The two remained silent, knowing they had no other option but to wait. Frost, feeling her husband's hand, continued reminiscing about the past. Strictly speaking, it was her who pursued him. After that encounter, she was determined to be with him for life, while Stone always thought it was him pursuing her. What a fool, how could you pursue me if I didn’t give you the opportunity? Frost smiled gently as she thought. Living in different cities, neither set of parents fully approved, but deep down, they both knew they would only love each other for life. This kind of love, only those involved could truly understand. In the pitch-black, soundless ruins, Frost was lost in her memories, tenderly whispering to her husband: "Stone... I love you!" Stone tightened his grip on his wife's hand in reply. Frost continued recalling their shared moments. Stone spoke to her every few minutes to keep her from feeling afraid. However, she wanted to sleep, feeling increasingly drowsy.
"Stone, I'm tired. I'll sleep for a while..." Frost said softly.
"No sleeping!!" Stone shouted loudly. His reaction startled Frost. Stone tightly gripped Frost's hand and said: "Listen to me, you must control yourself, absolutely do not sleep! You're bleeding, your drowsiness isn't from fatigue, but from blood loss. If you fall asleep, you won't wake up! Do you understand? Don't sleep. Talk to me."
Frost tried to fight off the sleepiness, but the overwhelming drowsiness seemed impossible to resist; she really wanted to drift off into a deep sleep. Stone kept talking to her, reminiscing about their shared past, but all she wanted was for Stone to shut up so she could sleep. She seemed to lack even the strength to speak. She vaguely listened, remaining half-conscious. She didn’t know how much time had passed when she heard a dull knocking sound from outside. Finally, someone had come to rescue them! Excitedly, she gripped her husband's hand and shouted: "You hear that? Someone's coming! Someone's coming!!" But Stone's hand slipped away, and all she heard was a sigh-like groan. She finally fainted.
