We all come in different shapes and sizes, so selecting the right plus size evening wear for you is very important. First, identify your body shape, then choose from the wide range of stylish plus size evening dresses or suits that flatter your curves and enhance your silhouette.

The Pear Shape: Hips and bottom section are larger/wider than the average waist-to-hip ratio. There are many beautiful plus size evening dresses that flare out from under the bust or waist; this style will work well for you.

- Wear a jacket or top with padded shoulders and some length, preferably extending past your bottom. This will add width to your upper torso and create a "V" line inward toward your tummy. The bottom (skirt or pants) should match or be in a darker shade/color. Always opt for a plain, flowing design, such as an informal wedding dress, which will give you an even flow from top to bottom.

- I particularly like long, flowing open tops with 3/4-length sleeves that can complement any dress, skirt, or pant. These tops are ideal for women in this category or those who are a bit self-conscious about showing their upper arms.

The Apple Shape: Typically, this shape has a midsection or tummy that is larger/wider than the hips. I prefer to avoid vertical or horizontal stripes as they don't work for me, and I go for fabrics that don't cling.

- Personally, I would wear an evening dress with or without straps that gathers or flows from under the bust. This style is timeless and always looks fabulous. I like darker shades in any color, but there are also some gorgeous soft pastel colors designed exclusively for plus sizes.

- Another option is to choose a dress that draws attention to your center, such as sequins sewn into a pattern starting from the hips on both sides and leading to the middle. Or select a dress that guides the eye from the hips to the neckline using a ruffle effect in the center that flows gently from top to bottom.

- Highlight your best assets by drawing attention to a beautifully designed sweetheart neckline or a fashionable necklace, showing a little cleavage, leg, or shoulder.

The Banana Shape: Having similar bust, waist, and hip measurements. If you think about your shape, you really only need to enhance your bust and hip area slightly to bring back a little of the hourglass shape. It's easy with a simple wedding dress!

- Padded bras and padded knickers: underwear that adds padding around your bottom. I haven't tried these, but they are available.

- Choose an evening dress that has gathering or ruffles around your hips or waist, or one that flares out from the waist.

- A strapless or halter neck dress that goes straight down, with or without a defined waist, but do wear a good quality shapewear garment to cinch your waist slightly.

With the variety of beautiful plus size evening wear available today, I am sure that no matter your shape or size, you will find the perfect dress or suit for you.
