Everyone is here looking for their own dream. No matter how hard the years may be, they always look forward to the future, humming the old song "Tomorrow Will Be Better." A hint of confusion flashes in their eyes, and one can't help but sigh, my youth, my dreams... Looking back, my heart is no longer the same, leaving only a blurred impression:
From afar, Shenzhen looks like paradise; up close, it resembles a bank; once in Shenzhen, it feels like a prison, better to go home and herd cattle and sheep.
Everyone says Shenzhen is great, everyone runs to Shenzhen; money earned in Shenzhen is spent in Shenzhen, where are the banknotes sent home?
They all say the wages here are high, but I have no money to buy toothpaste; they say the food here is good, but there's grass in the vegetables.
They say the environment here is nice, but cockroaches and ants run everywhere, Shenzhen Ocean World; they say the supervisors here are handsome, but everyone has a haircut that looks like a wok lid.
Year after year working, year after year worrying, every day overtime like a monkey; overtime without pay, scolded every day without reason.
When you see the boss, you lower your head; when you get your salary, you shake your head; by the end of the month, you're already worried, not knowing when you'll make it.
The beauties of Luohu, the men of Futian, the hoodlums of Bujie Street roaming the streets,
The flowers of Nanshan, the grass of Xili, the monks of Xianhu roaming the streets.
The handsome men of Overseas Chinese Town, the wolves of Shatoujiao, the thugs of Huanggang everywhere,
The meals of Old Chengdu, the beds of Pengnian, the girls of Gangxia scare the boys.
The fields of Yantian, the bays of Dapengwan, the men and women of Xiaomeisha are too crazy, Shenzhen Ocean World.
The obsession at Nantou checkpoint, the resentment at Meilin checkpoint, the couples at Luohu checkpoint heading to Hong Kong.
2. Us Today
Once, we were broad-minded, with lofty ambitions, taking the responsibility of helping all living beings as our duty, surging towards coastal cities, throwing ourselves into the great cause of building our country, finding joy amidst hardship.
Now, few have achieved success in their careers, occasionally chatting idly, sighing, saying just getting by, not wanting to talk about anything else. There's no joy amidst the hardship anymore.
Today is cruel, tomorrow will be even crueller, but the day after tomorrow will be beautiful. However, most people die on the night of tomorrow, unable to see the sun of the day after tomorrow. Everyone wants to be a hero, but few see the sun of the day after tomorrow.
Suddenly, a shock: is this still us?
Because of our accelerated pace, because of our rapid changes, because of global uncertainty, we believe but cannot find inner support, we give up but find new beginnings too difficult, we live in someone else's territory unwillingly, we stay on our own ship but can't dock, we hesitate and lose opportunities, we struggle but cannot see the rapids ahead, we worry but don't know why, we are indifferent but can't face the call of our hearts. Yet, we must still find a stabilizer in the rapidly beating pulse of society, we must still firmly grasp the steering wheel in an uncertain world.
3. Shenzhen and the Fortress
Shenzhen is a city of passion behind which lies suppression. To us, it is merely a passing place, never having neon lights, you leave while I remain... Just as that sentence goes, Shenzhen is a fortress, those who come want to leave, those who haven't come yet want to come. Little do they know, Shenzhen is neither a city for romance nor a city for life, it is a cultural wasteland full of copper stench and decadence. The material world and spiritual realm here all follow the principle of "equal exchange" in a commodity economy.
4. Shenzhen and Me
There is a classic dialogue that I remember:
The fish says to the water: You can't see my tears, because I'm in the water.
The water says to the fish: I can feel your tears, because you're in my heart.
But you're in my heart, yet I can't enter your world.
Walking alone on the lonely street, in the corner of red lights and green wine, the light from the shop windows shines through the bright glass, refracting out, especially blinding. The moonlight appears and disappears among the clouds, like the occasional flicker of lights on the undulating sea waves in the darkness, visible in Shenzhen, this industrialized city, which is nothing short of a miracle. Inside, however, the lights flash romantically and warmly, DJ music swirls above everyone, moistening each person's eardrums, while also wearing away this long night.
As night falls, loneliness always prevails, life's insights quietly change me. Standing by the window, I often reach out to the night sky outside, but only meteors wound me. My hands are scarred, yet I say, this is beauty.
Meteors streak by, I miss my wish;
Waves crash against rocks, I miss my blessing;
Stories are told only once, I miss listening;
But if I meet you in this life, will I miss again?
5. Conclusion
Precisely because I understand the meaning of life, I fear lacking the ability to independently support my life in the future,
Precisely because I comprehend the significance of dignity, I fear destroying it in a moment of youthful arrogance;
Precisely because I know the importance of friends, I fear being separated by estrangement;
Precisely because I understand the solitude within, I fear being alone during stormy nights;
Under a cold exterior, a fragile heart hides. The body shrinks from fear, hesitating, timid, in the howling cold night, silent... Related thematic articles:
