Introduction to Centipedes:
As a traditional valuable Chinese medicine, centipedes have been used in medicine for a long history, recognized and utilized by people over 2,000 years ago. Many medical classics, including "Compendium of Materia Medica," provide detailed records.
The medicinal value of centipedes is very high, with over 100 traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions containing centipedes. Centipedes are crucial ingredients in over 30 types of traditional Chinese medicines, including Ren Shen Zai Zao Wan, Da Huo Luo Dan, and Qian Zheng San. They are renowned for their remarkable therapeutic effects, treating conditions like phlebitis, blood clot blockage, trigeminal neuralgia, cancer detoxification, wind-dampness elimination, shock relief, facial paralysis, tetanus, and more. These applications have significantly increased the demand for centipedes. Besides medicinal use, centipedes can also be made into nutritious foods.
With the advancement of social material civilization, centipedes as treatment and health care products have gained increasing attention. Products like centipede wine and centipede health supplements have emerged. Moreover, with advancements in medicine, the role of centipede venom has been widely recognized. Centipede venom is even more valuable than gold, priced at approximately $150,000 per kilogram. Around 10,000 centipedes can produce about 500 grams of venom annually, indicating that the medicinal value of centipede venom far exceeds the value of the centipedes themselves.
