Our staff reporter Wang Dianxue and correspondent Li Jia report: In a dispute over their parents' property, the younger brother confronted his elder brother after drinking. During a scuffle, the elder brother killed his younger brother with a shovel. Yesterday morning, the No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Du Jianhua to life imprisonment in the first trial.

According to Du Jianhua's account, at around 10 p.m. on March 7 this year, his younger brother Asheng (a pseudonym) knocked on the door and was cursing outside. As soon as he opened the door, Asheng hit him twice. The two pushed each other, and Asheng knocked him down. In a panic, he picked up a shovel and struck Asheng on the head. After Asheng fell to the ground, he struck him a few more times.

Du Jianhua's uncle testified that the conflict between Du Jianhua and Asheng was due to family property division issues. Du Jianhua is usually stubborn and always believed that there were over 100,000 yuan in his father's medical insurance card, which had all been taken by Asheng and his wife.

The No. 1 Intermediate People's Court ruled that Du Jianhua was guilty of intentional homicide. Considering factors such as his self-confession, the case being triggered by family conflicts, and the victim also bearing some responsibility, Du Jianhua was sentenced to life imprisonment with leniency.
