Our reporter (communication by Zhao Deyin) - A woman took the opportunity of her friend losing her phone, mimicked her friend's voice, and called her family to ask for money. The Shunyi police solved this fraud case in just 3 hours. Currently, the suspect has been criminally detained.
At around 18:30 on January 23, the victim Li Xi came from Chengde, Hebei, to the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Shunyi Public Security Bureau for help, stating that his daughter, Li Fang, had sent a text message from an unknown number saying she needed an urgent transfer of 8600 yuan from the family. However, the phone was always off. He hoped the police could help him find his daughter.
Upon receiving the request for help, the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Shunyi Public Security Bureau immediately started their work. The victim, Li Xi, reported that more than 20 days ago, Li Fang came from Chengde to Shunyi to work and had maintained contact with the family. At around 10:00 on January 23, his mobile phone received a text message from an unknown number claiming to be Li Fang, stating she had some urgent matters and needed the family to send her some money. But when he called back, the voice wasn't Li Fang's. The other party claimed her voice was hoarse due to a cold, then hung up and refused further calls, only replying via text messages that it was Li Fang with an urgent matter and urging a quick transfer of 8600 yuan to a specified account.
After querying Li Fang's relevant information, investigators found that Li Fang checked into a certain international hotel in Shunyi at 4:00 on January 23. Investigators quickly went to the hotel to check the accommodation registration information and surveillance footage, discovering that indeed Li Fang and another woman had checked in. Coincidentally, Li Fang used the strange number to call Li Xi, claiming she was using her friend Wang Hong's phone. Under the indication of the investigators, the victim, Li Xi, arranged a meeting between his daughter and Wang Hong.
After separating and questioning the two, Li Fang stated that she was fine and had never asked the family for money, saying that after losing her phone, she had never contacted the family.
Wang Hong eventually confessed that she had accidentally learned Li Fang's father's phone number, and later, taking advantage of Li Fang losing her phone and without her knowledge, impersonated Li Fang herself to defraud her family into transferring money.
