According to reports, due to a lack of money, a man from Dengfeng went as far as deliberately selling his four-month-old nephew. Yesterday, the man was criminally detained by the Dengfeng police on suspicion of the crime of trafficking in women and children.
The brother's four-month-old son disappeared
Jianzhuang Guo, 34 years old, lives in Xuzhuang Town, Dengfeng City, and is the second oldest at home. Guo is lazy by nature, loves ease and hates work, is illiterate, and remains unmarried even after the age of thirty.
Guo said that in mid-August 2009, when his older brother Jianliang Guo’s son Taotao was just one month old, a woman named Hua Li from a nearby village approached him, saying she planned to buy Taotao and raise him herself.
After some haggling, they agreed on a deal for ten thousand yuan. But Hua proposed to pay in two installments: a down payment of three thousand yuan, and if nothing went wrong within five years, she would give the remaining seven thousand yuan to Guo.
"I have no money, no legitimate income, since someone is willing to give me money, I sold my nephew," Guo said. On the morning of November 6th of that year, while his brother and sister-in-law were out working, he quietly took the sleeping Taotao and sold him to Hua.
That night, when his brother and sister-in-law returned home and found the child missing, their parents said they had seen Guo carrying the child out to play.
Unable to find Guo anywhere, the couple felt something was amiss and promptly reported it to the police.
Police officers from the Xuzhuang Police Station searched all night but failed to locate Guo and the infant.
On the morning of December 12th, while Instructor Guoying Fan of the Xuzhuang Police Station was handling a case at the Dengfeng Detention Center, he passed by a nearby construction site and noticed a man who looked very much like Guo, so he immediately restrained him.
Upon questioning, the man admitted that he was indeed Guo.
According to Guo's confession, last November 6th, after selling his nephew Taotao to Hua, he took the three thousand yuan and left Dengfeng, changing his name to "Wang San". "In less than a year, I hid in many places, generally working on construction teams," Guo said.
The three thousand yuan was quickly spent. Because he had sold his own nephew, he knew he could never return home. However, Guo still kept thinking about the seven thousand yuan owed by Hua, so he found work at a construction site near the detention center. "Once I get the seven thousand yuan, I will leave Dengfeng forever," Guo said.
Based on Guo's confession, the police immediately rushed to Hua's house and successfully rescued Taotao.
Hua claimed that she bought Taotao because she saw that his brother and sister-in-law were too poor and feared that Taotao would suffer.
Mr. and Mrs. Guo said that after losing their child, they were in a daze every day, not even having the strength to eat.
