Young Man Saved by Policeman on Railway Track after Attempting to Take His Own Life; Reason Revealed: Girlfriend Set a Harsh Condition

"Without a house, don't even think about marrying me."

DA LIAN Morning Post (by Zhang Haibang, reporter Li She Sheng) — A young man came to Dalian with his girlfriend from their hometown to work. In the midst of their passionate romance, his girlfriend told him that without a house, marriage was out of the question. With little savings and no ability to buy a house, the young man, after a month of fruitless persuasion, lost hope in living. The railway police discovered the young man attempting to take his own life, chased him for over 200 meters, and managed to save him. After counseling, the young man finally abandoned his suicidal thoughts.

At 8 PM on November 24th, Officer Xu Minghui from the Nanguanling Station Police Station of the Dalian Railway Public Security Bureau noticed someone standing near the tracks under the station lights. It was very late, and for someone to be standing inside the enclosed railway tracks was extremely dangerous if a train were to come. Officer Xu quickly ran towards the person shouting, "Danger! Step aside quickly!" The individual on the track seemed startled as if waking up, turning around slowly. Officer Xu realized it was a young man. Just as he was about to ask him questions, the young man suddenly turned and started running north along the tracks. Given the frequent trains on the Shen-Da Line, if the young man wasn't promptly removed from the enclosed network, the consequences could be catastrophic. Officer Xu immediately began chasing the unfamiliar young man, shouting as he ran. After covering more than 200 meters, he finally caught up with the young man.

"Kid, are you trying to kill yourself?" Upon hearing these words, the young man burst into tears. Observing his profound sadness, Officer Xu understood that the young man had likely faced some severe emotional trauma and decided to take him back to the police station. Touched by the warmth of the officers, the young man opened up about everything he had kept bottled inside.

The young man's name was Lin Lin (pseudonym), and he hailed from a rural area in Henan Province. A year ago, he came to Dalian with his girlfriend to work and planned to settle down there long-term. Earlier this year, his girlfriend told Lin Lin that unless they bought a house in Dalian, she would break up with him. In October, seeing that Lin Lin had no intention of buying a house, she rented an apartment nearby and proposed breaking up with him. Unable to afford a house, Lin Lin patiently tried to persuade her otherwise, but she remained resolute. That day, feeling particularly despondent after work, Lin Lin decided he didn't want to live anymore and entered the enclosed railway line.

Officer Xu brought him a cup of hot water and helped calm the young man's agitated emotions. He then counseled Lin Lin, encouraging him to face life’s difficulties and challenges in love head-on, reminding him not to forget the parents who raised him. The heartfelt advice from the officer made Lin Lin understand the value of life. Lin Lin immediately expressed that he would never do anything foolish again and vowed to use his own hands to build a better future.
