Last night, in the third game of the first round of the CBA playoffs of our basketball league, Guangdong Dongguan Bank, Dongguan New Century, Xinjiang Guanghui, and Jiangsu respectively swept their opponents to advance to the next round. In a best-of-five series, four 3-0 results emerged, among which the three games between Guangdong and Shandong refreshed the record of playoff score difference in each game. As a fan, I really don't know whether I should be happy or worried.

Four sweeps indicate that the winning teams are very strong, and also suggest that the teams being swept have significant shortcomings. I currently live in Shandong. CCTV5 has been broadcasting the China Snooker Open these days. If I want to watch the CBA, I can only rely on the local Shandong cable TV broadcast. Watching Shandong versus Guangdong was heartbreaking; the gap in strength on the court was too large. It can be said that Shandong lags behind Guangdong by a wide margin in every position. Not mentioning that Shandong plays with an all-Chinese lineup, even comparing domestic players, Guangdong has Zhu Fangyu, Wang Shipeng, Du Feng, Chen Jianghua, Liu Xiaoyu, Zhou Peng, etc., while does Shandong have anyone who could claim fame? Players like Wang Gang, Sun Jie, Guo Lei, etc., besides Shandong fans knowing them, they might be just extras to fans of other teams.

Four sweeps are not good things. The excessive disparity in strength leads to imbalance, and fans' enthusiasm won't be high either. Just like last night's game between Shandong and Guangdong, you can hardly call it a match. Saying that Shandong is just warming up Guangdong wouldn't be far off. Even if some other games were slightly more intense, the outcome was still being swept anyway. In the first round, there were sweeps, and the second round might be a little more intense, but the result seems unlikely to produce any major upsets. Looking at the regular season, Guangdong and Xinjiang advanced smoothly and swiftly, leaving others far behind.

The Chinese Basketball Association should impose corresponding restrictions on CBA teams, otherwise, the overly disparate strength gaps will greatly dampen fans' enthusiasm, and I believe it would not benefit the development of the CBA or Chinese basketball as a whole.

Let's wait and see how the second round unfolds!
