Kaifeng News - On the morning of May 21, six elementary school students from a rural area in Kaifeng County, accompanied by their parents, took a minibus to Kaifeng City for an exam. When they reached the northern part of Zhuxian Town on the Kaifeng (Kai) to Wushi (Wei) road, they were involved in a traffic accident. An eight-wheeled truck collided with the minibus, resulting in the deaths of three students and one parent, and injuring eight others. The truck driver fled the scene.
"It is suspected that the accident was caused by the excessive speed of the eight-wheeled truck," said a responsible official from the Kaifeng County Traffic Police Brigade. Currently, the responsibility for the accident has not yet been determined, and efforts are being made to capture the fleeing driver. The specific cause of the accident is still under further investigation.
According to information obtained from the PLA 155 Hospital, after the collision between the two vehicles, out of the 12 people on the minibus, three died at the scene, and one more died due to ineffective rescue attempts. Currently, one person is still under observation and treatment in the hospital's neurology intensive care unit, while the remaining seven are all out of danger.
From the Kaifeng County Public Security Bureau, we learned that after the incident, the main leaders of the Kaifeng Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government made important instructions. Kaifeng County quickly activated its emergency response plan and established three working groups: the accident site handling group, the injured personnel treatment group, and the post-accident handling group. County Magistrate Zhang Dongliang arrived at the accident scene as soon as possible to direct rescue operations and post-accident handling work.
A responsible official from the PLA 155 Hospital told reporters: "The leadership of Kaifeng County has promised that the treatment of the injured from this car accident will not cost the families of the injured any money. All medical expenses will be borne by Kaifeng County first." The PLA 155 Hospital has also mobilized its core doctors and is doing everything possible to treat the injured.
