More Equals Less: Sohu Blog Module Selection

By菁菁河边草

There's a saying: "More is less," which means the more choices you make, the more painful it becomes. Because after making a decision from many options, the happiness you gain will be discounted by regret over the parts you didn't choose. This principle has been repeatedly confirmed as I've tinkered with my own blog.

Among all the modules provided by ChinaRen for Sohu blogs, after repeated use and evaluation, my favorite is "Current Status on CR." Although it's quite simple, it provides a function that Sohu blogs currently cannot offer me, so it made it to the homepage of my blog.

As someone who likes to record things constantly, I need a "note" function, with convenient recording and time reminders.

Although Sohu blogs provide a powerful "My Activity" feature, which includes: sharing recommendations, writing posts, adding modules, downloading QQ fonts, saying something, adding friends, etc., the fatal flaw is that it cannot separate these actions. I can't customize them precisely. As a result, "My Activity" becomes a mess, overloaded with information. More equals less.

For example, when a "module" appears, I might try it out out of curiosity. Even if I just add it and delete it if unsatisfied, it still generates a FEED. If I put this module on the homepage, there would be unpredictable outcomes because I ultimately don't use that module and delete it!

Also, some information in my activity, like "adding friends," I don't want everyone to see, because the blog homepage cannot block visitors.

When Sohu blogs launched the "One Sentence Blog" feature, I really wanted to add it as a module to my blog's homepage because it's the most likely to record my mood at any time. Including the "Mobile One Sentence Blog" feature (which I also like, I can use it offline on the subway), but the problem always lies in the aggregation level, there's no aggregation. A module is essentially an aggregation.

In the end: because everyone's thinking is different.

The designers and operators of the blog product consider: after writing this "One Sentence Blog," post it to the space for her friends to see!

But as a "blogger," what I want is: to conveniently record something and delete it if not satisfied. And I stubbornly believe that one should not write more than two posts a day. Otherwise, it loses the meaning of writing posts. Therefore, the "record anytime" function is relatively important to me.

The "Current Status on CR" module, except for the unchangeable TITLE and the inability to conveniently delete each record on this page, basically meets my small needs. Of course, you might wonder: Can't "custom text" satisfy you? (Smart question! It's because it can't automatically add time that I rejected it! Recording mood, the moment matters.)

[Conclusion]

People who think too highly of themselves often end up caring too much about others.

So, I deeply reflect: why do I care so much about the "blog" system? Perhaps it's because I take my words too seriously and want this system to match them. Self-criticism!

PS: This blog only represents my personal high-end needs and complaints, and does not represent the views of others or the opinions of the department I serve.
