International Online Exclusive: According to the German Bild newspaper, two famous male homosexual penguins "Z" and "Vielpunkt" at the Bremen Zoo in Germany have become "parents". They are currently successfully hatching a chick and raising it.
Zookeeper Joachim Schoene said that they conducted a test by placing an egg in front of the penguins "Z" and "Vielpunkt", and they took the egg away and started incubating it. After a 35-day incubation period, the chick successfully hatched on April 25th. Since the chick is still too small, it relies on the two penguin fathers taking turns to feed it. Currently, this new parent duo is happily taking care of their offspring.
Joachim Schoene said that their zoo currently has a total of 23 penguins, among which 6 pairs are homosexual. He observed that three pairs of male penguins had attempted to incubate stones. Therefore, the animal caretakers tried to separate these three pairs of male homosexual penguins and match them with three female penguins. However, this move was criticized by homosexual rights advocates and experts, who believed that it was interfering with animal behavior and should be immediately stopped.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the keepers observed that since the arrival of this chick, the pair of male homosexual penguins "Z" and "Vielpunkt" have taken as much care of the chick as any heterosexual couple would.
A biologist from the University of Oxford in the UK stated, "Homosexual behavior has been documented in many other animals, but not in great detail. Male homosexual animals are considered to be able to establish better social relationships between animals, while female animals tend to stay together to take care of their offspring."
